What is the optimal way to play pub tournaments?

So generally pub poker tournaments are filled with loose aggressive players who will call preflop with any two cards. (Perhaps a generalisation)

They will go to showdown with pretty much any pair +

I am between two minds on whether or not it's optimal to play

    1. a hyper lag game and try and trap with suited connectors, gappers small and big pairs with two pairs, sets, straights and flushes

    2. A tight aggressive game with a relatively low opening range of hands, which may expose you to high variance situations.

I know this all depends on opponents but I'm interested to hear how others would play.

Blind structures are slow to start with them increasing very rapidly near the end before pubs close.
