Pre alpha of this has just been released to backers from kick starter,a few videos have gone up on youtube now.

Bears more than a resemblence to No Mans Sky and Space Engineers, which is not a bad thing in my book. It seems to focus more on the survival aspect from what ive seen so far.

Currently no way to get a hold of the game in early access yet from what i know,if anyone knows different please feel free to post how ,would love to have a go myself:)

    Description:
EMPYRION IS A 3D OPEN WORLD, SPACE SURVIVAL ADVENTURE IN WHICH YOU CAN FLY ACROSS SPACE AND LAND ON PLANETS. BUILD, EXPLORE, FIGHT AND SURVIVE IN A HOSTILE GALAXY FULL OF HIDDEN DANGERS.

I really wish these guys, Starmade, and Space Engineers would all get together and between them make one finished, functioning, polished-looking game.

Could be lot of fun, Starmade was great fun.

Looks decent. Will keep an eye on it.

One thing i liked the look of was that in survival you start on a planet with a crashed ship rather than starting in space. Kind of like space flight and travel to other planets has to be earned by gathering resources and repairing and upgrading your ship to achieve orbit.

This could all change during development though i suppose.

It does look a bit rough imo at the moment but there something about what ive seen so far that i like.

So many space oriented games coming out now, personally loving it. For a genre that was neglected for awhile there, its nice to now see it get a bit of love and innovation.

This now has a release date for early access, coming to steam August 5th.

May take a chance on it if its below the €20 mark but not sure yet,i may wait for it to be further along in development

It looks promising but i have a policy against getting any early access games. i'll defiantly keep an eye on it though.

    I'm also tempted.

But got badly burned with Starforge, so I'm holding off.

Sorry to hear that. I'm interested in this, Interstellar Marines, The Forrest and a few others but I remember what happened with The Stomping lands. For Empyrion, i'm just worried that the developers ambitions may be overreaching their budgetary capabilities.

Picked this up tonight, gonna have a go of it when i get home from work in the morning.

Hearing good things about it lately

Still buggy, but it's good fun.

First impressions are pretty good, its moved along quite a bit since i last saw it.

Think the latest update was only a few days ago though. So not sure what has changed. Tutorial is decent and the PDA works quite well as a knowledge resource so far.

Bit of fun also trying to figure some stuff out too.

Is this basically Ark in space?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

I did actually think that a small bit after i stopped playing that it was similar to Ark in some ways.

But ive not played enough really,it did just feel a little similar initially. Not a bad thing imo,i think Ark is a decent game.

I did spawn a cheeky star destroyer in creative just to get a sense of how large the ships could get and they can get pretty big! Which is cool

This game is such a weird mix of incredible complexity and ghetto production value.

Some of the sound effects sound like they're from some free 90's CD, yet the planets look more like actual terrain than anything in No Man's Sky. On one hand I really want to play this, on the other it's still in Alpha and people have been playing it since before this time last year. Yet another perma-Alpha by the looks of it.

I picked this up a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it too, it has lots of content already.
Actually, its got a lot of stuff that I wish Space Engineers had; stuff to do on planets, POI's, etc.

    Here's another good getting started guide;

A friend has bought this too so we have started on a server. HWS EU i think it is.

Having an issue with factions. So we created a faction, both of us are in it and im admin and hes owner of faction. Yet i cant build near his core,is this normal or are we doing something wrong?

As Admin you should be able to set structures/vehicles to public/private/faction.
You have to be standing on a structure/in-vehicle and press "p" to bring up control panel.
From there you should be able to set it on the bottom right side of that screen, to Public/Private/Your Faction.

Ah ha,thank you moon. I didnt think structures could be accessed using P. Didnt realise they have a menu like that, thought it was only vehicles.

Cheers, ill take you up on that at some point. Still doing ok on the HWS server atm, although my wee base in on a PvP planet so expecting to get blown out of it at any point!!

Enjoying what ive played of this so far, resources are a bit of a grind but in this genre thats to be expected i suppose.

It does feel very like Ark in some ways, especially the levelling system for recipies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Spoke too soon base wiped and everything gone, one guy in chat says "Welcome to Empyrion" lol

Thats a harsh lesson in how not and where not to build a base:)

Im just raging i wasnt online, would have like to try the combat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Having a really good time with this game over the last few days. Got wiped i dont know how many times on earth so eventually asked for a lift on the server from someone. One guy obliged. So i docked my starter SV to his CV and he warped me to phobos which was cool.

Only foumd out today phobos gets a server wipe tomorrw morning so have to get finish my capital ship and get the off that planet.

There hasnt been one dull moment since i start playing this, great fun!

I love that that is possible. "PLEASE HELP ME I'M STRANDED!"

Yeah its pretty cool, you have to be careful though as people will back stab you,i just had the benefit of having nothing to lose really so was worth the risk.

Most people ive found to be friendly and helpful but like most MP games there are factions that will just try to shoot and loot the minute they see you. Nice to have the PvE planets to get a little rest from that, build ships, stock up on food etc.

Im still amazed at the scale of buildings/ships in this game. Got my first CV,a T1 starter ship,so was expecting it to be small but nope, thing is massive, its a whole base on a ship. Its small compared to other CV's but as big or bigger than ships ive seen in nearly every other space game ive played. Awesome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Still enjoying this, hard to get a good source of info though. A lot of material online is out of date and there is 4.0 on the way which will also make changes to the game so not easy if you get stuck. On top of that im still playing on HWS which is modded and also has its own set of rules and custom solar system! Its a lot to get the head around. Busy evenings ive seen up to 80 people on the server,so PvP planets can be pretty dangerous places.

Im also keeping a single player game going too,not very far into it but im ticking along nicely there. Next step is try to get a CV to go get rare ores so i can build better CV's and SV's so i can start to take on the NPC bases.

Ive well got my money's worth at this stage and i still feel its a game i will continue to play for awhile despite it being some what buggy.

Decided to give this a go again after the recent thread updates. It's a lot different to what it was a few months ago. Much more fun.

When I first bought it, it was like pulling teeth trying to figure out what to do. Now I've actually got a mini base up and running, taken out a few drones and in general it's much more fun. The motorbike BP was a nice addition as running everywhere was a right pain. Granted, the thing is absolutely terrible in it's design, but at least you can get from A to B quick enough if you don't have to turn too much :D

Deffo gonna play a bit more of this over the next while. Only doing single player for now while I get a feel for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

It was the good reports that i heard about the latest update that made me want to try the game. It certainly seems to have improved over any of the stuff id seen previously. Glad i waited to pick it up cause i neraly bought it when it first came out.

Id never played the game without the motorbike till all my stuff was takin and as wonky as it is,it is still so much better than walking/sprinting. Found any decent amount of distance to cover on foot without supplies means lots of deaths from hunger and lack of oxygen. First thing i aim for is the starter SV though,so much handier to get around and has a decent amount of inventory slots.

Got my first CV builing in the factory this morning amd managed to complete/take out an abandoned mine dungeon and a spaceport. Got an epic sniper and epic shotgun out of them plus a few rare resources. SV rocket launchers seem to be the key to taking down the base turrets early game. Theres probably better weapons later on for it but ive found the launchers very effective.

Think im coming close to the end of my time with this game for now,ive pretty much played only this for over a month now and have amassed ~70 hours.

I rented a server with a friend for the last two weeks and were pretty much at the end game now. Seen all the planets now, built a good few ships, have takin out tons of bases and have all the rare tools and resources.

Its by no means a perfect game, balance between the gathering and fun when you get towards the end game is a little off. Even when your all the way through the tech tree your still required to mine manually. There is no ship or auto mining in the game yet. Its pretty bug free in my experience too but the odd one does creep in. Usually nothing game breaking, just awkward.

Some may find it a little sparse also,in a way its like minecraft that when theres little left to do to progress your pretty OP and just left with the core systems like ship and base building to do and would really have to set goals for yourself to want to continue. My mate for instance loves the building, and he will gladly spend a couple of hours doing just that.

If they can manage to implement the sytems the devs are talking about in future i could see this being a really good game. Things like procedural galaxy, auto mining,NPC trading, goals outside of the tech tree, missions,PvP server events and some others.

All in all a decent game, even in its current state IMO. It kinda feels like a more accessible space engineers in a lot of ways. Plus its €20 on steam and usually less in sales.

This is currently 50% off on Steam so is €9.99. Well worth it for that kinda money IMO

    How you getting on?

Umm played a bit of SP was enjoying it then joined a groups server, they had a dupe glitch and an hour later I had a spaceship and rocket launchers

I liked the SP and if MP was as slow it would be fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Didnt come accross a dupe glitch myself, could have used that the odd time!

I can see how that could potentially spoil it.

The HWS server is usally the most popular, normally a lot of people on and they create and manage their own custom mods. A good few of which the devs have borrowed from.

I got this, and 2 friends did as well. Awesome game for an alpha build!!!!!!! 10 hours in 2 sittings....oh dear....

Here's what happened to myself and Jack last night:
Flew around planet and discovered abandoned mine. Investigate mine? yep, went back to base, stocked up on guns ammo and bandages. Flew back, broke in the door and went down a lift, up a lift and got attacked by creatures called 'Nightmare' Used up some bandages, ate some food, reloaded all weapons and moved further into the facility. Found more, killed them and looted storage containers. Jack died, I waited for him, we moved forward again, Jack blows hole in the ground, uncovers walkway and falls in. Get attacked by aliens and dies. I wait. again. I fall into hole shooting wildly jumping around, trying to escape, I die. When you die you drop your backpack which holds everything you had. So at the ship I construct another gun and ammo. Back to get backpack. We both jump in and die. again. we both head back to base with nothing in our inventory. I start again by making a rocket launcer and 20 rockets for it. Alas time caught up with us and had to leave it there. Next time i'm going back rockets blazing, with backup :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

He he,those abandoned mines can be tough if your not sure what to expect. If you can find any Epic weapons they will help a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Pro tip from my few hours playing it, Rocket Launchers dont deal splash damage. It must be a direct hit :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 577 ✭✭✭Justwinginit

After the last update, seems to be more (better) stuff in the crates in the stations. Pistol is a lot stronger, a few other things, all in all, a good update. My friends and I purchased a server for €4 a month, so we can take over the solar system together Muahahahahaha. Starting from scratch again was a pain, but soon ranked up and have auto miners gathering valuable ore, just need to wipe out the stations again (yes, abandoned mine I'm coming for you) and loot EVERYTHING, before heading to the moon and clearing that right up. Can't stop playing this damn game.... 60+ hours up now, and no sign of stopping....

1gb update out for his today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Just had a look there, seems to be a lot of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

Although one thing caught my eye,a mining drill for capital ships. Also the notes stated that more resources will be available to mine in space too,id much rather this as i find mining in space to be less of a chore.

Also its up to v5.x,im gonna hang on for a few more updates before i start another playthrough

    Almost annual bump! :D

I saw this being played by Quill18 and it looked exactly what I wanted cause I restarted a Minecraft world recently but it just didn't quite cut it. I played a tutorial and had to stop cause I couldn't find the Motorbike it told me to get on. Started a basic world and kept getting stuck underneath solar panels when I placed them...

However, I can see many hours going into this making silly floating strip-miners before launching into space.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

OK, I may have just found my new crack... Watched a small handful of YouTube videos (found a not terribly annoying American channel by the name of Lift Pizzas which has been useful). Made use of the Workshop and had myself a mining hovercraft digging things out and the construction is very straightforward and has loads of options to build anything you can imagine. Lots of fun, still in Early Access though, but seems to be reasonably well behaved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,598 ✭✭✭EoinHef

So Alpha 12 dropped for this, procedural generation galaxy instead of the few systems previously.

Seems they have added quite a bit i havent seen before aswell, might be time to give this another go,really enjoyed it once they updated it a bit after release

    I forgot I own this.

Didn't realise it has been that long either, they best get a move on,still in alpha after 5 years!!

Bit of a janky game but for some reason I like it.
