driving up the n11. just at stillorgan park hotel a taxi changes lane from taxi lane into my lane (no bus stopped in front of him or anything just pulls into lane). about 100m later he starts driving in-between two lanes (bus lane and the lane I'm in). he's right over the bus lane line and continues driving. I don't know what he's at. I beep him once (short beep) and he then eventually pulls into bus lane. I accelerate a bit just at this point (I stick to 60kph on this road) and I (couldn't see before due to taxi being across the lane) a speed van. may well have been over 60 at this point as it was a reaction to what was he at. probably got nabbed by the van and have 3 points already. what the fook could he possibly have done that for - why not just stay where the hell he is. really angry.

Possibly trying to slow you down. Knew the van was there.

Will wait and see. Maybe my tinfoil hat saved me :)

yeah but if he had just stayed ahead of me normally it would be fine - why drive across two lanes which is totally bizarre - to me anyway - that was the reason I accelerated because it was strange and it obscured my view - if he thought he was helping he didn't. just drive normally ffs.

In all honesty, if it were me, i'd appreciate his efforts (whether i was done or not).

Nice to see someone make an effort to save someone else.

If it were me, personally, And I seen he was driving very obscurely and randoming around the lanes with no purpose, I'd have probably slowed down to see how things played out (my initial thinking would be he's having a heart attack or has fallen unconscious or something). You obviously figured the best thing to do was hammer the accelerator to get round him.

    To each their own. :P

So you couldn't see properly the road ahead and accelerated? Its on the few places in the country I agree with the speed limit as between the UCD Flyover and Stillorgan a good deal of pedestrians have been hit and killed over the years. And regardless, the Gardai and vans live on that stretch, so speeding is pointless along it. Get a wrong set of lights and you'll lose everything you 'made up' etc etc.

Terrible spot, they're always sitting there after the Esso garage nabbing people with the limit dropping from 80 to a pathetic 60 on a 3 lane dual carriageway. Ireland/Dublin and it's nanny state limits would drive you bananas.

May have gotten my first speeding points last night aswell

Wide, empty, N-road with a good hard shoulder.. "Go Safe" van camped just beyond a bend.. I was doing about 108/110 at the time so the f*cking thing may have nabbed me!

Safety my ass.. 2km further down the road gets a bit narrower and twisty but never see them there!

Internet rumour suggests the current setup of the Go Safe vans cannot determine which car was speeding in a situation where there are two cars in the frame. Two oncoming cars parallel-ish I presume , one car behind another probably doesn't cause a problem.

So you may have dodged a bullet if you were reasonably close to the taxi?

Internet rumour also suggests that the gear will be upgraded for "two channel" radar or whatever they call it to address this.

Anyone have a better idea if this is true or false?

no I accelerated a bit only when he moved over to the left- an instinctive reaction to pull up alongside him to see why he was driving across two lanes. he wasn't weaving - he had maintained a position across the two lanes. hence I couldn't see to the left when he was in this position (where the van was) as his car obscured my line of sight to the left. I accept that he may have thought that he was doing some sort of service but why do it in this way which was "abnormal" to me at the time. what do you honestly think you would think in the spur of the moment in such a situation?

That I better slow down and let the confusing situation in front of me sort itself out.

At present, if two cars are in the same frame, or reasonably close, its extremely likely for the picture to be discarded.

GoSafe are rolling out a new system at present. I spotted a new van at the Enniskerry N11 turn off this week. However even if the capabilities are there for a multi car scenario, it could still be challenged in court. The burden of proof is on the State. This however would require a challenge to the legislation which would require deep pockets.

well I didn't see it that way at the time. I'm obviously not as cool and collected as you guys :)
anyways hopefully the van couldn't pick me up - if it did I'll have 6 points and my insurance will be affected from what I read - anything over 4 and it makes a difference. with 3 points now for 1 speeding infringement (used to be 2 points) it's not that hard to end up in the situation.

    It changes well before that.
Another post here said it's a spot where there have been many people knocked down, making it one of the few good places for safety vans.

I've had 6 points at one stage.. didn't make any difference to my policy.
I did quotes without points to see the price.. then made changes to add the points and the price stayed the same.

what did you hope to achieve by doing this? You were hardly going to have a conversation with him through 2 panes of glass and 5-6m apart on a dual carriagway?
