Hot water fail

No hot water in our house this evening.

No one has touched timer or switches. I've changed the fuse in the hot press but still no hot water in kitchen or bathroom.

The trip switches are all set ok so that doesn't seem to be the answer either....

    Any ideas?

Do you know if your getting power to immersion switch are there any lights working on switch.
Is there a timer controlling immersion
If it's a dual immersion did you try both elements (sink and bath)
A picture of the immersion and any switches around it might help

There is no power getting to the system as far as I can see. All switches are turned on in the attached pictures.

We are not getting any hot water - bath, shower, sinks, kitchen or bathroom.

    What is the timer controlling
Check all mcbs on fuseboard and make sure they are all up

I presume all your hot water comes from the immersion ie shower etc?
Maybe try putting the timer to the 'on' position instead of 'timer'
Ive had a couple of timer units go before.

The timer controls the water, but even flicking to 'on' 24 hr, it doesn't make a difference.

All switches on fuse board are up as they should be.

Yes - all hot water from immersion. I've set timer to 'on' instead of clock, but it
hasn't made a difference. Lights don't come on, no noise.. No hot water!!

some immersion elements have high limit stats on them that require manual reseting if they trip. The reset button is usually red or black in colour and about the size of a match head. To reset just push down with a pencil or some such but please make sure power is turned off before attempting to reset. You will hear a click if it resets., edit, although if you have no light where it would be usually either the neon on the switch or on the timer, it's not this, sometimes an mcb can trip without dropping down, try pulling it down and then push back.up. Both switches and timeclocks can also fail.from time to time.

At this stage I think you might have to call in a sparks possible faulty switch power supply fault

Where should the reset button be?

The stat is under the cap on the immersion
If you have no supply going to the immersion the stat reset will have no bearing
Do you know did the indicator light on the switch work before

If there is a high limit stat on the immersion it is underneath the cover of the element itself, ie where the flex goes into the cylinder. This would usually be assessed by removing the cover that is typically held in place by a nut.It doesn't sound like it's that in this case though as I think light has disappeared on timer and stat would have no bearing on that. Please insure power is turned off before attempting to remove any covers as there are exposed live parts underneath.

Yes - the light on the switch always worked before.

Could it be an element has gone?

And as for the explosive live parts... Point taken! At that stage I'm thinking that's not for me to investigate!!!

So.... Looking like I'll have to call a professional in. Is it a job for a plumber or an electrician?

And thanks to all for all the above posts.
