Hi,

A friend is in the process of restoring a 1908 Powell Stationary engine.

This is an engine that would have been used to operate farm machinery & was run on parafin.

The engine runs very well. But there is a massive crack in the crank casing. As you'd expect from an engine of this vintage, it is made from cast iron. Welding cast iron is not very straight forward (the cast iron needs to be heated & then cooled gradually .... )

Does anyone know of anyone in the North of the country, that would have experience working on old engines, or welding cast iron.

Depending on the type of crack you might want to try find someone to do cold stitching or you could try to drill and plug it yourself
