Shoestring Weekend

I was just wondering if people could recommend an inexpensive long weekend break outside of Ireland. Anywhere as long as it's accessible and cheap. It would be in August and am very open to suggestions. I suppose to narrow it down: don't want to go on a ferry, it looks too dear and drawn out. Not any of the huge tourist destinations either like Venice or anything like that. Even someplace in England/France etc that's not so obvious as in London/Paris. Two adults no kids so not looking for a family type thing either. Food/places to visit and some nice bars maybe.

If I were you I'd discount anywhere that doesn't use the euro, especially the UK. The exchange rate at the moment is brutal and makes everything so expensive.

August is a really expensive month to travel and the heat in a lot of Europe is oppressive.

Start by sticking your dates and departure city into Skyscanner. You don't need to set a destination, it will show you the cheapest flights. From there you can start to build a break.

Bilbao is great for a city break.
Foodie capital, so you are bound to eat well; Guggenheim museum, charming old town, biggest covered market in Spain, beaches...

Have a look here. Just input your dates ; departure airport & budget and it will generate potential options for you.

Does it have to be August?
Seeing as no kids involved, if you hang on until early Sept, prices come crashing down once schools go back.

Doing a Master's in September so not sure about dates yet depending on the course. Possibly could squeeze it into the first week maybe. Some good ideas so far, thank you :) August does look expensive alright but I don't mind heat at all, I like warmth.
