    Hi,

I have a SKY Plus old white box and purchased a new sony Bravia TV. I presumed that the Sky Box would have a HDMI port but does not. To avail of the full benefits of the TV I would need to watch via HDMI. Is there any adaptors to convert from scart to HDMI?

    Thanks

The old sky box isn't capable of putting out a HD signal, you might as well use the scart direct to the TV scart.

To avail of the full benefits of the TV you need to replace your Sky box

OP, post the model no. of the TV, or maybe look around the connections for an 'LNB-in' similar to what the Sky box has.

I've noticed people buying the likes of Sony & LG TVs with integrated satellite tuners, & not being (made) aware of them.

I'm assuming you're using the old Sky box for free channels only?

Thanks I'm in contact with Sky and already have a HD 2TB box for another TV on multi room and I'm in contract until March next year. They wanted to charge me €280 for a HD Box!

As the TV is A HD TV the picture isn't being viewed at its full capacity.

I saw something on EBAY that could covert from Scart to HDMI. Do these work?

It might give you a picture but it wouldn't be any better than just using a basic scart cable, if your TV has the input. You can't upscale the scart signal to HD quality, if that's what you're going for.

New Sky box is only solution.

Ah right, this TV doesn't have a satellite tuner anyway, not that it would have been any use for the Sky subscription stuff.

    So this is useless then?

You'd be better off buying one of these.

If what you want is HD quality video then yes. It is not possible to create a HD quality picture from a SD source, the extra detail is not present, all these devices do is to change the output signal to a HD one but the actual video displayed is still only SD quality.

I would suggest buying a second hand SKY HD box on ebay or adverts. once you have the box it needs to be paired with your existing card for full functionality. follow these instructions: http://help.sky.com/articles/set-up-your-sky-box?country=ie

Alternatively you could ring sky back and threaten to cancel, once through to the cancellation dept you may get them to significantly reduce the price for a new HD box, you would be likely be tied in to another 1 year minimum contract though if you get a subsidised box.

No, that will not give you hd picture, the output source is sd so it's the same as using a scart

You obviously missed this bit: ** This cable is Not hdmi to scart **, not that a simple HDMI to SCART/SCART to HDMI adapter with no DAC/ADC would be any use.

This thing is actually an adapter for some kind of mini or micro SCART socket, & even states that it's only suitable for a few particular brands of TV, though I'm not sure about that.
