I want to stay in lake como for a week. What airoport should I fly to? Also how do I get to lake como by public transportation? Also what location on the lake would be most accessible by public transportation?

    Thanks

Milan international (Malpensa) is closest although the airport ryanair frequently fly into ie Bergamo also makes lake como easily enough accessible

trains go direct from Milano Nord Cadorna right in the middle of milan to the town of como which is at the south-tip of lake como, journey takes about 45-55 minutes. get off at the final stop in como that being Como Nord Lago.

directly across the road from the train station is a ferry stop where boats will bring you to various stops on the lake

or if there's a better connection from the airport you fly into, you could go from the main railway station (Milano Centrale) to Como San. Giovanni. Takes 36 minutes and you can walk to the lake.

Don't know about buses but it's about 90 minutes by train including one change. In case you've any prejudices based on experiences in other countries about trains, they are very efficient and reasonably priced in Italy. Highly recommended for getting around, especially all over Northern Italy.

Monza (home of the Italian F1 Grand Prix) is just north of Milan and is a major junction on the network, you'd get a train from Bergamo to Monza, change and then catch a train to Como San Giovanni.

Take the Trenitalia from Bergamo station to Varenna (Esino). A change in Lecco in between, 10- 20 minutes wait, I think. From there ferries to other parts of Lake Como (eg. Bellagio) or Varenna itself is pretty. Easy enough trip.

You can get a local bus from Bergamo Airport and Bergamo train station.
