    Hi Folks ,

    I've a Giant Rapid 4 with S-R2 wheels , 700x23 .

I had the bike serviced last weekend including the rear wheel trued and on Monday cycling home from work 2 spokes broke which i was surprised by as the route is decent,

Im 6'3 and just under 18 stone , is my weight the issue here ? or did the guy who serviced it do something? because ive had the bike for over a year and this is the first time ive had this problem? Do i simply need a wheel that will take more weight? Or should i just bring it to be repaired?

Are they breaking at the hub on the drive side or else where?? Once the spokes on my SR2 wheels started to go, they all went fast. All on the drive side of the hub. Replaced with Mavic Askiums and have been happy ever since. How old are the wheels and about what mileage??

Yea on the drive side too , bike was bought new in June 14 , only between 5-10k done.

And is it at the hub, and looks like it just popped out as opposed to snapped??

yea at the hub , spokes seem intact so you could say they've just popped out

SR2's are cheap, flimsy wheels! I'm a 100kg one myself, did a plenty of countryside spin on my roadie, the rear wheel went beyond repair after 3k. I had the same, the spokes started to snap at the hub(and in the end I had some amount of pinch flats!). Get yourself a decent wheelset and you'll be fine. I think the wheels should be tailor made to the rider, if shops see you're bigger than average, the wheels should be changed for a stronger one on the new bike. And no damage done to the brand...

Yeah. Happened to me also. Your hub is on the way out. Common enough on the SR2 at the moment according to the guy I get my bike serviced with. Time for a wheel upgrade. Mavic do good strong wheels that roll nicely. You will notice a difference with new wheels. You don't have to do both, but it is nice to get both done. When getting your new wheel, bring the old one in as you will need to get your cassette changed over. I am not a light rider either.

Thanks for the advice , just wondering if you have any recommendations, would i get a decent pair of wheels for less than €200? or would i need to up my budget.

Go to your LBS and talk with them. Tell them what you are looking for and the price. I got a set of Mavic Askiums for €200. They are strong and I use them on my commuter. Others will recommend other wheels. I have a good relationship with the guys in my LBS and buy almost everything, including Grease there.

Just buy a rear wheel. Try Rose bikes.

A Mavic A319 rim if it will fit or cxp 33 or xtreme airline 4 28 if not.

    36 spoke 3 cross with tiagra/105 hub

    100-150
