    Hey folks,

I recently started looking at a new bike for commuting and after some searching through bike stores came across this: http://vccycles.com/ridgeback/653-ridgeback-element.html

However, I can't seem to find any reviews online from trusted sources. I know very little about bikes so I thought I could come to ye for opinions. I know the board is probably flooded with questions like mine but does anyone have any experience or comments about the spec of this bike?

    Regards,
    Chill

these are good bikes although €829 seems expensive. Compare to the equivalent speced Trek 7.x FX or Giant Hybrid and I suspect you will save yourself a few hundred euro.

I have one of these, bought 5 years ago and used daily for commuting to work. Still pretty much perfect with minimal maintenance, although I had to get part of the gear mechanism (cogs as far as I remember) replaced last year. According to the guy in the bike shop, if i had maintained/replaced the chain earlier this would not have happened (as soon anyway).

I'd definately buy again if i was looking for a commuter bike.

Thanks folks, I was actually asking the guy in the shop about the Trek 7.4 (Also ~850) and he recommended against it, saying the element was the better specced bike, which was probably in hindsight nonsense. I intend to use this bike for a very uphill commute so maybe that weighed in a bit? Maybe I was duped there I'm unsure but I put a deposit down and will pick it up on the bike to work scheme. Glad to know it's a decent bike!

I think this dealer is the only Ridegback dealer in Ireland so they like to push them. I do like these bikes but if you compare to the Trek 7.4 which has carbon forks I'd go with it for some money. If the carbon forks is not a concern take a look at the 7.2FX which will be around €550 (or the Giant equivalent).
