I know I won't have to back date it but if i bring the logbook to the tax office before sending it away can I pay tax going forward or do I have to wait on the new logbook?

You'll have to wait for the logbook before you can tax it.

Why has the tax been out so long? That seems like a red flag, unless there's an explanation for it.

Get the current owner to sign the form.
Bring the VLC to the tax office and do a transfer of ownership and tax renewal there and then.

I done it many times before when buying cars out of tax. The VLC will go for processing and will come back to you within 2 weeks but you will get a current tax disc there and then.

Just bring the insurance cert and NCT cert incase they ask for them but you can usually just fill the details in on the form n

i never got this, insurance companies won't insure you if you have no tax on the car (some) while you also have to have insurance to buy the tax

That's not true. How does the insurance company know it's not, taxed? I've insured many a car while waiting for it to be taxed. Sure how do brand new cars get insured?

Yip that's why i said some. One direct insured it today but nononsense wouldn't give a quote. There are more examples on both sides
