Service due in 700km, car tells me oil should have been changed 500km ago

My Peugot 50008 diesel service is due at 93K and currently at 92,300 so I was planning on getting it sorted this week or next. At the weekend when I started the car a message flashed up briefly that I think said that the oil was overdue changing by 500k. There is now a wrench sign next to the mileage number. I haven't driven it since and plan on arranging the service today for sometime this week and won't be driving it but should I be concerned about any possible damage and should I be taking this up with the company (main dealer who've serviced it since the beginning.) I remember when buying the car the dealer stressed how important changing the synthetic oil was.

When was it last serviced? If the oil level is ok then the car should be fine, regular oil changes are needed on Turbo Diesels to keep them running well though.

It's always been serviced before the recommended time, so I think 15k ago at 78k. Thanks.

The service warning isn't a ticking clock that will explode if you drive the car over the allowed limit, its simply a reminder. You will do absolutely no harm whatsoever driving the car past the "recommended" service interval.

Cars need to be maintained and oils need to be changed, but there is no need to be concerned about it right down to the very mile. Those oils can go for a lot longer than you might think.

Seeing as you mentioned you have serviced well in advance it suggests to me somebody forgot to reset the service indicator on car.

Now car thinks it's over due.

Does the 5008 have an oil sensor? I know some vehicles can tell when the good is gone from oil and will tell you to change it even if it's not due, especially if it's a modern diesel being driven wrong.

No harm in driving it, plenty of cars never get serviced, but just make sure you check the dip stick that it's still between the marks before hand.

what car has this system, very interested . any condition based service intervals ive come across relies on calculated loads related to a number of sats eg. starts , rpm counts, kph etc

That's what I was thinking off, just couldn't recall the correct method

I know the Opels have an Oil change indicator that is separate to the Service intervals - tells you the Oil quality.

If the Peugeots have this system (and it's worth checking), then you need to get the Oil changed. In modern diesels, there is additional fuel injected that is used to burn off the soot in the DPF - some of this fuel seeps through the system and in to the Oil, so while the Oil level is fine, it's not of a suitable quality to function properly.

If left to run too long when it's diluted, it could have some nasty effects on the engine.

Well it's in for service at a main dealer in Finglas. Needs full service, everything changed, oil, pollen etc new wipers and new front brake discs and pads - €700 seems a bit high but just want it sorted now and I won't have the hassle of finding a good mechanic before the weekend.

...and it gets better. The lock nut can't be found so no brakes being done today. Tyres were changed in April '14 so have rang that crowd just to check but looks like i'm down another €60 if it doesn't turn up at home.
