If you connect to an eircom wi fi hub in a hotel or a mcdonalds can the hotel see what you do online. Are they your isp the same as they would be if you were connecting to their own network? Or are you online with eircom direct?

It used to be a share of what the hotel has, given to them at a big discount by eircom.

Anyone could see what you're doing if they sniff your packets, it's wifi afterall.
    You up to no good?

    ye
no i was curious that eircom would call it an eircom hub if the hotel could sniff your packets. Eircom hub gives the impression you have the same service as at home wi fi maybe it is in the t and c's
i know eircom can see you at home but at least they are your isp

so can the hotel see what you are doing. and no it is not for torrenting and i do not use it. i don't think it should be called a hub if the hotel can see what people do

    Why do you care?

Normally no they won't see anything, its off the shelf end to end eircom and their network is independent.

i am curious.most times when the hotel provides wi fi they are your isp and can see what you do. i was surprised someone said that could happen in a hub situation. if it could it would be falsley advertised and would be giving he impression people had security like at home. i do not use hubs though i think i connected one once or twice when searching for a network in town . i would not do anthing like check banks etc. i might see a book in a shop and check to see how much it was online

Hub has absolutely no meanin in terms of wifi. Don't construe any safety or lack therof from it.

When the business do their own network they are not your isp, their provider is, but both carry your data.

With your home connection at minimum at least 3 ISPs can "see what you do" for most sites you access.
