    Product Name: hp g7000 laptop

    Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista

Hoping somebody can help? Not sure if anything matches my problem so here goes. My laptop is about 7 years old. Several years ago it got smashed off the floor violently from a height but some how survived that ordeal. It did however leave the screen unhinged from the keyboard on the left hand side and the USB ports on the right exposed. Money being an issue I've never been able to get it repaired. In the last few months it started to become difficult to start it and often took several gos to do so. The wiring at the top left of the keyboard had becoming more exposed and a couple of weeks ago sparks came out while using it. I saved almost everything immediately onto a hard drive as backup. This week the laptop has stopped completely. When I press the power button the blue light comes on briefly but it won't power up. Is the laptop saveable. Is it worth my while getting it fixed. Any ideas what's gone. Would it be expensive. There's still stuff on it I don't want to lose without trying every option

Not worth repairing I'd say. Best bet is get a 2.5" caddy and put the laptop hd into that. It's probably working enough to allow you transfer data off onto another machine

Being doing some research since it stopped. Caddy seems an option. What exactly is the function of a caddy and could it transfer files embedded in a laptop that are only accessible by inserting a disc

A caddy allows you to use an internal hard drive as a plug and play external. Files already on the drive will be accessible on another computer. I'm not clear and what you mean by your last sentence.

I mean a CD rom inserted to play a game and then files saved on the laptop from within the game. I've been doing a bit of research I think it might be possible but only if laptop can be switched on

Yeah, save games like that are usually in a folder under Programs, Game title. You could transfer those as well. On a new laptop you can reinstall the game and copy your saved games over.
