    It is a Powermaster http://www.baumanns.ie/shop/extension-leads/power-master-surge-protected-extension-lead/

Do you just throw these things away when that happens?

There is a fuse in the plug end.

When I replace the fuse it goes straight away and the unit seems to be sealed .

Is that all there is to it ? Just replace it and throw away the old one?

Glad it was the lead and not the washing machine:D

Unless you know a electrician....bin it.

Or cut the lead off, put on a new socket block....only if you know what your doing.

You shouldn't really be running a washing machine with an extension lead, especially those multiway ones. Do not buy a cheap one!

As the other replies said, they're cheap enough to replace (but don't buy a cheap one). Not worth the risk.

    thanks.(hmm..)

It was a plumber who set it up for me and ,well the washing machine is not damaged (I suppose that is because there was a fuse in the extension lead setup)

Also , when I went to the hardware store to buy a new one she did show me an expensive alternative but said not to bother with it as they would only be needed for computers and the like.

My theory as to why the fuse went is that the dryer and the washing machine , when both heating at the same time , overloaded the 13 amp fuse. Like I said both machines are working away(although I don't use both at the same time until I work out what actually happened)

The fuse blew because the combined load was probably in the region of 20A!

The one for computers probably isn't much better for the loads involved however.

The proper thing to do is get a socket installed for each appliance. (Not a double socket)

A 13A extension lead doesn't provide 13A per connection, it a total rated load of 13A. Running multiple high-load appliances into the same extension can overload not only the extension but also the 13A wall socket it plugs into.
Get an electrician in and provide a proper supply for the washer and the dryer, and get his advice on whether the wall socket you were using should be replaced too as it could have suffered damage.
