Red gas versus Yellow gas

    Hi,

We have a gas cooker running on yellow tanks of gas. However, we are considering switching to red gas after the installer recommended it to us.

Is there any advantages to red gas over yellow? I think yellow was slightly cheaper than the red from our supplier (red came in smaller tanks, but similarly priced).

    Thanks.

Would you not have to change the jets or that in the gas cooker as the yellow cylinder is butane and the red is propane?

Presuming the tanks are kept outside, you'll have less problems with cold weather on propane.

Jets and regulator will need changing though

Does the red have a more intense burn than the yellow? Yes, the installer did mention about changing the jets. Is the only advantage of red that it goes better in the cold?

We've changed from butane to propane and back a couple of times, we noticed very little difference in the flame intensity - maybe a slight increase when on propane but it was hardly noticeable and may have been our imagination. Had to change regulator naturally enough but we didn't change the jets (someone qualified to work on gas should be able to tell you if you need to change jets but we didn't). In cold weather propane definitely better as the butane can slow down flow or even stop when very cold - just our experience.
