Aer lingus and flight costs

I've recently moved to London but will travel back to Dublin a lot .

First thing ! Is there any reason the aer lingus app won't let me book flights from London to Dublin return ? Only Dublin to London return,

Why is the cost so much more when flying from London to Dublin rather than Dublin to London ?

Basically a trip in two weeks times is costing €400 but if I booked it as separate flights it would cost €340 for the exact same flights.

Im confused about all this ! Can anyone enlighten me and yes I've taken into account the exchange rates.

There are other carriers on the Dublin-London route, you know, so you aren't stuck with Aer Lingus. BA fly from Heathrow, Ryanair have flights out of Gatwick and there is also Cityjet's services out of City Airport to consider.

This is assuming that you don't want to consider flying out of Stanstead or Luton, which lot of people don't/won't consider.

There is BA from London City as well as CityJet.

    And Gatwick I think.

No, BA is LHR and LCY only.

I often find CityJet to be the cheapest option for flights to London after Ryanair to STN/LTN. It's worth paying more for London City Airport anyway.

Costs are higher flying from London due to higher airport duty and charges than flying from Ireland.

OP is talking about the cost of the round trip, not the comparative cost of DUB-LON vs. LON-DUB.

DUB-LGW in early September midweek is €39.98 with Ryanair. Can't argue with that!

I've never seen DUB-LGW for €20 ever, and I fly monthly (I'm from London). Cheapest ever was €30 :).

Think I've seen €19.99 fares o/w to LGW on EI a few times. I'm travelling on that route to the RWC in late September for €24.99.

I've found the same when pricing Paris-Dublin-Paris return - significantly more than booking Paris-Dublin and Dublin-Paris as two single flights.

But in the end, I booked Tours-Dublin/Dublin-Tours with RA for 75% less (and free parking at Tours) :D

Why would I mention one way :D?

    Anyways.

Took the bus to London a couple of months ago when I could not get a flight. Cheap as chips and journey passed quite quickly.
