Just who should receive correspondence about this:
A tv show on during the week was advertising the great work/positives that have happened as a result of money in that it bought a Community-type bus.

This show then interviewed/chatted to some of the elderly, broadcast for all to see where they spoke of only for this bus they wouldn't get out of the house...
One elderly lady in particular spoke of living alone and of using this bus on x-days weekly going to x-spot for club-activities like bingo with her peers.

Was on Live & Still Online Now for all to watch. Nothing stopping anyone who now knows that elderly lady from knowing that
~ she will be using this bus to go x
    ~ every day at x-time
~ lives alone thereby knowing when her house will be vacant.

ALL Appropriate places to lodge this complaint would be?

Not sure if just pure stupidity / hopefully / almost certain not intended for this type of exposure for these elderly however, this was what I took. If I knew these elderly I would now have this personal information about them. Some section of the wider community might take advantage of knowing these pieces of information.

    Many Thanks,
    kerry4sam

    Just to add:
I did lodge a formal complaint through their website.
I did e-mail a complaint direct to the shows e-mail
^^^ both times asking for the video-clip to be taken down.

Complain initially to the company in question and the broadcaster who carries the advert. They should be able to address an initial query on an ad or programme content.

If they offer no satisfaction then perhaps you can talk to either or both of these guys.

    Me?
These are now facts that are out there for everyone now when their was no need or them to be.
No-ones business that this elderly lady lives alone
No-one business that she goes x daily at x-times thereby leaving her house vacant.

Just thinking there if this was a relative of mine. An elderly relative giving what's perceived to be one relatively / intended good-will-type interview and return from Bingo one day to find someone had intruded on her personal space/into her Home.
Not Very Nice to say the least.

This interview could've taken place hassle-free without this in-depth dangerous detail imo.
    Thanks for your reply though,

I'll try them after as I did contact the company in question and even the relevant show.

    Thank You,

My reaction, and I'd imagine the reaction of any regulatory body (though this is just intuition), is that if you give an interview knowing that it will likely be publicly broadcast, then you have no complaint if that in fact happens.

Barring any mental illness that would indicate an obvious vulnerability on the part of the interviewee, I don't see it as the responsibility of the broadcaster to determine what an interviewee can responsibly disclose.

That sounds exactly like the ads that the National Lottery are running on radio at the moment.

Maybe the person was an actor and the details are false?

    This.

Also, the ad didn't give any indication of where the woman lived. If someone recognized her, and intended to use the information given for nefarious reasons, then they would need to know where she lived.

If so, then they would easily be able to find out her regular outings etc.

    I think you're overthinking this.

That ad annoys me. The national lottery has been sold to camelot. They wont be putting any money into buses anymore

The very same thing occurred to me, although I enjoyed the ad and thoroughly agree that a day out like this is a lifeline to the elderly. Maybe these voices are those of actors? It's hard to imagine that professional advertisers would have overlooked the implications of using actual residents of the area in question.

I don't think the lottery decides where the money goes.

In fairness Sam the woman choose to give these details out.

As far as I can see it's not really the broadcasters job to edit what she says in that regard.

Why won't there be any more buses?

The percentage for 'good causes' was set to remain the same after the €405million winning bid from the OTPP/Camelot/An Post consortium.

The production company would have asked each participant to sign a disclaimer/waiver/no come back/we own all the stock type document before leaving the site.

Can I ask Please: Is it okay for this to still be open or must it be closed?

~ I've been informed an investigation is under-way into this
~ Been informed that the clip in question has been taken off-line

They do know I am not happy about the stupidity dangers of them airing such information.
Anyone with even the basics of Researching skills would have no issue with locating the relevant station; the programme in question; maybe even locate the date this was aired.

    Many Thanks,
    kerry4sam
