    Hey,

I'm looking for some advice about changing car as I've been struck with a bit of choice paralysis.

I am driving a 00 Golf 1.4 petrol. Its the base model with no extras.
I love my golf but I am looking to move up to something newer.

I don't do a lot of driving, its mostly town driving with longer trips every few weeks,
and my budget stretches to 9k or 10k at a push.

    What I'm looking for is:
Something in the same class as the Golf.
Something with a bit more power than the base 1.4 petrol engine.
Something with a comfortable nice spec interior that rides pretty well.

Depreciation and badge are not an issue.
I'd prefer something with lower tax and insurance.

I've been looking at Seat Leon, Kia Cee'd, Skoda Octavia and mk5 Golfs.
I'm leaning towards the Cee'd and was gonna go looking today but I thought I'd ask first.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

The missus took hold of a Mark VII Golf and it is really nice, 1.2 and fully loaded.
We had a Mark VI (2010) which was a comfortline with nothing I would regard as extra. It was a nice car though except for an issue with the engine (Diesel 1.6) so we had to change it. We would have kept it but will defo be keeping this as it is loaded.
Perhaps looking at a PCP option on a new one should be considered?
Other than that I would say the Seat would have more extras if you are considering 2nd hand.

Do you need 4/5 doors or would 2/3 doors be ok? Would a saloon interest you or only hatchbacks?

    Honda Civic 1.8 litre:

Tax is only €390, 1.8 has 140bhp so will have plenty of poke compared to your Golf and they are very fuel efficient.

    Hey,

@Fiskar: I was very tempted by a 09 mk6 1.4tsi but was a bit rich. I hadn't heard of PCP finance, definitely something worth mentioning to a dealer. Thanks.

@bazz26: I had looked at Civics. A girl at work has one and said its her favourite car that shes owned. I'm not a fan of the shape tho. Its a bit too future-ish for my taste. I had looked at an Accord which are beautiful but I don't think I need that much car.

Also I'm more in the market for a 5 door. I prefer hatchbacks also.

I had a feeling the Civic would be a bit too radical for you. Most Golf drivers are a conservative bunch and the Civic is just a bridge too far. :)

Hyundai i30 is worth looking at too, it's the sister car of the Kia Ceed but the interior feels a bit better packaged than the Ceed:

Thanks for the suggestions but after looking at all the cars again, I think that I'll just go with a lower bhp golf. A 1.4 petrol seems to be in or around the 10k mark, so with a bit of haggling it might be possible to get the price down a little. I might ask about test driving an Octavia when I go in to see if there is much of a difference. Nothing else gives me the same feeling as the Golf.
