If hairdressers mess up, is there a cost getting it fixed?

The "too long;didn't read" version of the below is that hair dresser put wrong colour on my roots and if I go back to get it fixed will there be any charge to me? Even for the blow dry? I'm not sure how it works.

    Hi all,

As the subject line suggests I had a disaster with my hair yesterday. I normally wouldn't get upset but they just cocked up so stupidly!

I had balayage done in the same place a few months ago so went back yesterday to get the roots topped up with the base colour. I thought there was something wrong when the towel came off and my hair was still wet but I wasn't sure (and I'm a coward and didn't say anything - whole other issue!). What annoys me is she was BS-ing me and telling me the colour looked great. When I got home I could see how blatantly the roots are wrong. It's as if she put the balayage colour into my roots rather than the base colour.

I'm so cross/upset about it. I'm not working at the moment so it was an expense I couldn't really afford but I had a friend's wedding last night and a few other events coming up so decided hair was the one thing I couldn't do myself and it would be the one thing I pay for. They also underquoted me when I rang ahead last week. I'm just feeling so sorry for myself to be honest (hence the essay).

Anyway, my real question is, if I summon up the balls to ring and complain and I go in to get it fixed - is there any charge to me at all? For the colour or the blow dry etc? As I said above, I'm stone broke and can't afford to get stung with another unexpected bill.

Thanks all - and if somebody could call the wahhhhmbulance in the meantime that would be great.

    C

Phone the hairdresser and make a complaint. Discuss the problem with them. They should fix it for free. However don't finish the call until you have this point clarified. Best of luck :)

I had a similar issue not too long ago, although it was more of a miscommunication than a cock up. I called and explained, they gave me the next available appointment, fixed it to my satisfaction, and refused to take money for it even though it wasn't entirely their fault. What they have now is a loyal customer for life, handled it superbly. And that hairdresser is guaranteed a decent tip from me in the future.
If the salon you went to have any interest in customer satisfaction and loyalty that's exactly what they'll do. Call them and explain (calmly), I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to fix the issue, reputation means a lot. The key here is calmly, though. Hope you get satisfaction.

Thanks guys! I psyched myself up to call and the girl on the phone was lovely. I'm going in over next few days. She definitely saw it as a good thing to get feedback because the alternative is I probably wouldn't want to go back. I purposefully haven't and won't name and shame because I usually always have a good experience there so hopefully it's a one off.
