Is there much of a difference between them ?
I currently have ultegra front and rear mechs and ultegra crankset, should I keep the 105 shifters or pull the trigger on the ultegra ?

For ultimate long life buy dura ace shifters. I have some ancient dura ace 7700 ones that still work perfectly, while my old ultegra 6400 ones stopped functioning many years ago..

The dura ace are not within my budget atm I'm afraid I was thinking along the lines of a clean 2nd hand set of ultegra ones

    Stick with what you have
6700 shifters have had their fair share of failures
Secondhand ones would be a gamble

    10 or 11 speed. 6800 11 speed is awesome

Pre-hidden cable Shimano STI's were much more durable, 5600, 6600 etc. The internals of my 6700 shifters rusted away after two and a half years use.

Would agree with velo.. The 6700 ten speed ultegra shifters were crap, the previous iteration ultegra 6600 ones with the exposed cables were far superior...

the dura ace 7900 levers ( hidden cable ) will work with ultegra but not 100%
left lever has slightly different pull ratio- ca be worked around but really its only for aesthetics youd go that way
the king of 10 speed shimano levers is the dura ace 7800 lever
    indestructible
however the cables are exposed and that bothers some-

they still make daft money second hand- north of €150 generally but with good reason i suppose
its also the lever that they based the "feel" for the new 11 speed groupos on.
