    Hello,

Will be in lough derg area for a cycle soon. Can anyone recommend which is the nicest part of it i.e. most scenic and cycle friendly.

Only want to do about 60/70 km. Am not a serious cyclist. Was thinking of going killaloe to mountshannon and back or thereabouts?

    Cheers.

Ballina to Portroe, is a nice scenic spin, there is a bit of climbing, wonderful views of the lake

It's only about 15k, but you can continue to Nenagh, then in the only n7 to bird hill then back to ballina, its about 50-60 total, the road from Nenagh to bird hill is straight ans kinda boring, if you wanted more climbing you could head into the silvermines

killaloe to mountshannon and back would be a much nicer cycle than the portroe road.

of course if you were willing to step up to 120 you could do the circuit of the lake and do both.

failing that, killaloe up to mountshannon, down around the marina there and back is a very nice spin.
