greetings, we are off on a family weekend away and the destination is westport in mayo. I have some how managed to be allowed to take the bike so given the choice what would you guys prefer doing, the great western greenway westport to achill and back or the skoda westport cycle? both are around 80km there are positives for both. I am so far 60/40 on the side of the greenway. any thoughts

You can do the greenway any day of the year,
Wesportif comes around once a year,
    Know which one I'd choose,

If its a racer then do the Skoda as the Greenway surface doesn't really suit racers.

Another vote for Wesportif here, did the Greenway a few months ago.

Is it rough terrain in parts?

The good thing about the greenway is i can get up early and be back in around 3 hours so herself won't be giving out to much. But the sportif would be more challenging i imagine and as said you cant do them anyday. I suppose either way i will get to see a nice neck of the woods

Was there last weekend and took in a great loop out to louisbourgh, lenane and back to Westport about 100km. Had planned to do the greenway while there but the weather had other ideas, think we had the right choice though. That loop has some spectacular views

That's more or less the route of the shorter sportif.

OP, you should do the sportif. Forecast is ok, you can sign on in the morning until 8 or so.

The Westportif route is pretty damn good, particularly the part coming from Louisburgh through Doolough down into Leenane. The Greenway is nice but if you're into cycling the Westportif is definitely the way to go.

Whatever you do, get out early as the weather will be better in the morning.
