Arms while running ?

Hi know medical advice is not allowed here. But have noticed my arms hurting when I run, my legs are fine, but my arms feel week. This was the case in the past and push ups/light weights helped. But lately it's started to happen again, despite the push ups and light weights. I'm not sure how I can ask without breaking forum charters, but does anyone else here experience this?.
    Thanks :)

It's not tension in neck/upper arms? Try relaxing on run? Other than that I don't know. Any other activities or sports that could contribute?

Also make sure you're stretching your arms post run. There are dynamic arm warm ups too! Try swinging arms across the front of your body so that your hands reach your back, do this in a swinging motion middle, bottom and top of your body. Itll help warm up those muscles & relax them as aquinn already suggested

You just need to relax your arms. Probably easier said than done.

Would you feel that your tensing your arms?

handy if you had an itchy heel.

    back OT.

Do you run with tense arms OP? I had something similar. Still a newbie in the great scheme of things. Had high/ & tight arm action, & consciously had to lower my arm swings.

Loosen it up, like this girl does.

Seriously though, my left shoulder cramps every once in a while. My left arm has a tendency to bounce around a bit more than my right. I just try to minimise the excess movement and the cramp soon fades away.

If it is caused by tension, sounds like you need to relax from the jaw down. I find it's a bit like a cascade effect: tight jaw = tight shoulders = tight arms/fists = tight everywhere. How are you getting on now, any improvement?

Wassa song? "The leg bone is attached to the....", etc.

Might be worth your while attending a Chi Running workshop.

    ...In the meantime...

RELAX!!! ..and use your arms as if you're sawing wood. Excessive movement isn't good - unless you're powering into the finish. Equally no movement isn't good either - you need to use your arms to help momentum.

Having said all that, everyone's different.

Frank Shorter (At least I think the story was about him...maybe it was Bill Rodgers??) used to be criticised for his supposedly poor positioning with the footstrike of one of his feet, and swinging one of his arms across his body. It was only after he stopped serious running that they found a significant difference in leg length, so his actions compensated. ..like I said, we're all different!

    Emil Zatopek
One example he often gave was always to be relaxed and to help ensure that while running, gently touch the tip of your thumb with the tip of your index or middle finger. Just making that slight contact would ensure that arms and shoulders remained relaxed.

^ Was just trying to remember who that tip was from about touching fingers to thumb to relax the arm whilst running.
