Jobseekers Allowance and Work

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm kind of desperate for some advice.

I am currently receiving Jobseekers Allowance and am looking for work. I applied for a job last night and then had an interview today. I will be contacted later to find out if I got the job.

My problem is that I don't know how this will affect my Jobseekers. The job is for 3 days only and 21 hours. It's a once-off thing and it's doubtful that anything else will come of it. I want to take this job but I can't afford to if it really messes with my payment. I live with my boyfriend and we're already struggling with the amount we get as a cohabiting couple.

I didn't get home from the interview until 4:25 today and so I could not go to the social welfare office for information and citizens information website is just confusing me the more I look at it. Does anyone have any idea what will happen if I took this job?

Thanks a million for your time and help.

You can keep part of your payment and go on casual work forms where you fill in the days you worked and get the company you will be working for to stamp the form and hand it in the the social welfare and you will then get paid by cheque. If you go in to your local office they will set you up.

    Thank you for your help.

A concern of mine is that if I am working tomorrow, Sunday and Monday and then go into the office on Tuesday can they stop my payment or are they accommodating to retroactive work.

they won't stop you they will just go back to when you start and work from there and I think Sunday is not counted but you must still mark it in. Your means will be calculated - anywhere from €10 - €20 per day deductions when you work will be taken from your social welfare payment

    Thank you.

For an interview for three days of work they kept me in there asking so many questions so hopefully they are considering more days work in future anyway.

    Best of luck with it.

I've moved the thread to the State Benefits forum as I think they'll be better placed to answer your query.

You need to go into your sw office and you will be given forms for your employer to complete and also dockets for you to fill in every week. As you are on jobseekers allowance which is a means tested payment your claim will be payment suspended until such time as you have returned the paperwork need to assess your means from employment. Also casual claims are paid by cheque and a week in arrears. Sunday is counted.

Thanks a million for all of your help. Didn't end up getting those 3 days unfortunately, but said they'd keep me in mind for something else in the future.

    Thanks again!
