Im building an 80s steel bike and am looking for a Cinelli quill stem, with clamp diameter 26.4 (for Criterium bars).
Size 110 or 120 would do.
    Anyone got one?

    Cheers
    DD

I have a vintage Cinelli XA 120mm stem for 26.4 bars in perfect condition that I've been saving for a vintage steel De Rossa bike build...€80 would convince me to part with it..

It's a beauty of a stem but way to pricey for me I'm afraid. Looking to spend around €30. The other consideration I have is that I'm building an early 80s bike so ideally after the slighly earlier stem - IMO the XA is best suited to a late 80s build with aero levers (hidden cables).

But for €30 I'd probably try out the XA!!!😛

    Cheers

Well DD the whole vintage bike nostalgia thing has pushed the price of good quality old components through the roof..

As you can see this is an early eighties photo of the late Le Professeur Laurent Fignon. On his Renault Gitane team bike one can clearly see a Cinelli XA stem..

Cheers Juan. Great photo too. I appreciate the gear is more sought after now, but I got a stunning Super Record crankset the other day for €65, so that makes an €80 stem pricey. For me at least. Yours looks like a top condition one, so I'm sure it's worth above average and that you'll get your price.

Thanks for getting back to me anyway. I'll keep an eye out for one closer to my budget.

    Cheers

How about this? 120mm, unsure of model and year

It's a Cinelli XA, presumably of similar vintage to mine. The expander plug has been installed up side down... ie the tapered end should be facing up..

Hi, thanks for this. Do you know what bar diameter it takes? Could be interested but would have to bring the bars and make sure it fits. How much would you want for it? Cheers, DD

26.4, I'm fairly sure they even came off a set of Criteriums when I got it. I'd take €20 for it

Out of curiosity, what are you building Dave?

Have you checked out the Retrobike site. Lots of great info there on retro builds......

    Hi Stephen
Thanks for asking. I've been racing pretty much every year since I was 14, and I'm now nearby 43. Not so much the last few years, but still doing it, and raced a lot up to about 33. When I was a first year junior I had a beautiful steel pink and white Paganini, Columbus SL tubing. Around leaving cert time I sold it to a mate in the club at the time. Last year I got a notion to track it down. I contacted his mum in his family house in Rathcoole, tracked him down to England, and sue enough he still had it in his attic over there. He offered it back to me for free if I could collect it. A week later and I had it back. So I'm building it up (slowly) with all 80s Campag gear, mostly Record, and trying to get my hands on all the finishing kit I had at the time (GP4s, crit bars etc).

Photo attached of me with it at the start of stage 6 of 8 of the '89 Junior Tour in Clonmel. And the frame the day it arrived back.

Great blog. I knew Barry well (unless thats you who posted it Barry???) I'm from Clonmel originally but left quite young and raced against Barry and Ray for years. My most memorable race that involved Barry was in the Viking Trophy during the Isle of Man cycling week in 1992 and Barry and I were both in the break that stayed away. Tommy Evans caught us and passed us on the last time up Snaefell. Gutted !!!

Thanks to Conor for the stem. Sound man, and will help get a lot to get the Paganini finished.

No I'm not Barry but thought of his blog when I saw your post.

Thought you might have raced against him given your age.
