Hi, never built my own machine before but I need a new one and thought I would give it a go rather than going down the usual mainstream PC shop route, just looking for some advice really as there is a lot of information out there but I wouldn't mind a bit of discussion/personal opinion before I make a stab at it.

If anyone requires any further information from me just give me a shout.

    1. What is your budget?
    • €1000 max, preferably under €750 (I will spend the money if the difference can be justified)
    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
The main purpose of the computer will be content storage, internet browsing, programming, watching HD movies and generally running many processes at once
    • Content Storage: PDFs, MP4, MP3
    • Video editing
    • 3D Modelling - MatLab
    • Internet
    • Programming - Computer Vision etc...

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
    • No, I would like to use a user friendly Linux distro (e.g. Mint)

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
    • No

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes/No]
    • No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?
    • Resolution of current TV (TV will be used as display) = Full HD 1080p
    • No future upgrades planned.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals?
    • Wireless Keyboard
    • Wireless Mouse
    • Wireless Card
    • USB ports
    • HDMI port
    • Headphone capability
    • Webcam capability

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?
    • No, I don't necessary understand the whole overclocking thing so I guess I should give it a wide berth until such a time as I am better informed on the topic.
    8. How can you pay?
    • Bank Transfer/Visa Debit/Cash

    9. When are you purchasing?
    • Whenever I have decided on the parts I will be using, in the very near future (approx 1-2 weeks)

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based?
    • Limerick City

Probably gonna be hitting €1000 yoyos here.

    MP4s? Really? :pac:

    i7 4790 €310
    h97 board €80
    2tb HDD €80
    250gb SSD €85
    300w PSU €30
    16gb DDR3 €100
Give €100 rough for case. I recommend Nanoxia DS3 for silence and cooling, though this'll be like ice anyways.
    €785 roughly.

You should have about 8-9 USB ports? Should be enough.
Webcam will be USB I'd think
It'll have HDMI and 3.5mm slots
Recommend using HomePlugs for internet. It's like €40 for a pair.

As for keyboard mouse, I'd put €100 roughly for a decent set, no point in pissing about with cheap crap if you've the money at hand.

Prices from hardwareversand after geizhals.de affiliate site.

Case is a suggestion, if you see one you like the look of give a shout. Everything else should be fairly solid.

    Any questions, ask away :)

Purely for aesthetic reasons I was thinking of getting the NZXT H440 (see link below)

    https://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/143-h440-performance-mid-tower.html

What do you guys think; I should stick with the Nanoxia DS3 previously mentioned?

Just got one. This case is brilliant: looks great and it's rock solid. The fans that come standard are pretty decent, plus you've a fair few choices aesthetically. They even have that upscale black and green Razer edition, pretty darn fancy (thought more expensive).

    I have the white one.

Ok so, I am back on track. I went onto the Intel site and came across this:

    http://ark.intel.com/products/88195/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz

Are there any reasons you guys would advise not purchasing this CPU?

By comparing the specs it seems to me (the untrained eye) to be a better option than the i7 4700 recommended above.

    It is pretty pricey though.

    Any views?

Need ddr4 ram for it which is more expensive as well as a more expensive mobo.

It'll add about €30 to the board and a tenner to the RAM. There's feck all difference in them tbh
