Need help - buying second hand car

And I have no idea what to go for. I do a fair bit of mileage, maybe 70 - 80km a day, mostly motorway and national road. I also have 2 little people in the back so room/boot space is a must. My budget would be between 5 and 7 grand.
Any thoughts/hints/tips from knowledgeable people about what to be looking at??

I drive a 1.4 opel meriva at the moment and as a family we've outgrown it.

Ford Focus in these years is your best bet.

Octavia mk2 would be a good bet. Comfortable reliable car with the biggest boot in its class also the way it's a hatchback makes for easy loading unloading.
