I am currently with sky BB with speeds 5 mbps, today eircom guy came to doors and offered me eircom fibre, its going live 5 of august and i asked if sky gone have fibre he said no, but i cant switch to eircom because i'm in contract with sky still so how come sky wont have fibre in my area if eircom will have, do they not using same line with eircom?

    Where is this?

If it's fibre to the cabinet, or the rep said efibre, then sky do indeed have that service now.
They're trying to get you to give them commission, not help you.

If they specifically said fibre to the building and you're on that roadmap, sky are very slow to offer new services, it took them about a year or so to offer efibre.

It's exchange fibre, don't think Sky do them yet only VDSL from cabs. The Frenchpark exchange is fitted and ready to go.

Don't order anything from a rep on your doorstep. It won't end well.

How much was the eircom guy asking you to pay? Sky will charge you €50.00 minimum for unlimited fibre broadband, but you will also have to take the phone from them as well.

As others have said, don't deal with the door callers - they will lie through their teeth to get their commission out of selling you something - anything. They also have absolutely NO IDEA of how things work in the real world.

I recently upgraded from regular sky broadband to their fibre product.

Download up from 12-14 Mb to 46-47, upload from 0.6Mb to 15-17. Latency around 10ms.
    Impressed.
It costs 10 Euro more than regular broadband (50 all in with phone line).

Note that your speed will depend on many factors. When I upgraded online I was informed that my line will be up to 50Mb only, and this calculation was very close to what I got.

That is total price, you have to take phone line, but you will pay no more than 50 Euro for all services. New customers don't pay for broadband in first 3-6 months iirc.

My line is direct fed and vdsl from the exchange just went live in my area, I checked and I can order from Sky no problem.

Agreed. But if you step out of line with phone calls you will get hit. They also charge €30.00 line rental which is way above what Eircom are allowed to charge. This issue was highlighted in Sky's own forum on their site,by the Irish customers. Those queries & queries about Sky's failure to provide fibre so annoyed the Sky staff that they closed the Irish section of their forum:mad:.

Let me know how it goes, others have reported that they take the order but stall the install date.

I won't be ordering it due to distance from the exchange it would actually be a downgrade in speed to go from adsl2+ to vdsl.

I am not defending them, but when it comes to broadband I only look at the total price. Sky was cheaper than eircom to me.

Why would I rack up a bill on my home phone line?

I don't even remember its number.

Ordered mine on 29/06 and could pick install date when ordering. Can't remember when my exchange went live, but about 3 months ago checked both eircom and sky website and it wasn't enabled yet.

The main problem with fttc is that you don't know what speed and qualify you are getting until it is activated.

Should be a way to put pressure on Telecom's to test the speeds prior to install before you sign up.

    Not gonna happen, I guess.

If there's an existing line the eircom site tells you the prequal value.

I've checked with both Eircom and Sky and on the order page they both tell me what speed I can expect, that's why I've decided not to order.
