    Tesco 180gr bag €1.50

I am a bit of a spice head, so these sound awesome to me. I chew Scotts Bonnet straight off the Stalk for giggles. These are apparently banned in the USA? Registering 78,000 Scoville units, about 1/4 of a scotts bonnet pepper, still pretty impressive. I was originally going to post a bargain request, for these both a quick tesco search brought up a nice price from what I can see. If anyone can better this price, add it in.

Found these unpleasantly hot myself, not a natural spiciness, made too hot for the usp. Seemed about 50/50 between hot and normal too. Wouldn't have them again.

I started a bag of these last week, but found them too hot. I rolled up the bag, left it on the couch, and went to bed. The next morning my two year old came running upstairs screaming "Hot hot, my mouth too hot!!!". The poor child had mistaken them for cheese doritos and polished off about 10 of them before feeling the heat. He wasn't right for an hour or so!

I guess the proof is in the eating. Imagine it will hit differently coming immediately off the surface as opposed to being chewed from the core like with a chilli.

Had a bag, must have been unlucky, all the boring cheese but one hot chip.

and feck was it hot, unpleasantly so.

I'm a big fan of chili heat, but this wasn't it, and the cheese ones were dull.

Would prefer a pack of chili heatwave, or even better the aldi knockoff for 75c are a winner.

I don't get why they don't just fill the bag with the hot ones.

In fairness that would lead to a more boring ad campaign.

The cheese ones were bland and the hot ones were just hot, no flavour to speak of. Really disappointing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, wasn't gone on these either!

Same price in Centra at the minute.

They should lace one out of every 5 chips with powdered dog-sh*te.. I mean make it really interesting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭firestarter51

i bought a pack and wasn't impressed to be honest, hot for the sake of hot, no real flavour and the cheese ones were like old socks
    back to aldi for me

I had a bag the other night and it wasn't pleasant. It was far too hot but then it does say that on the bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,516 ✭✭✭Outkast_IRE

Ratio was all wrong in my bag, it was about 50% hot chips, after which you cant taste a thing for about 10 minutes.

    Would not buy again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,063 ✭✭✭Greenmachine

Seems like, these are in a try them once category. Still want them, might take a walk to Centra for my BB final snack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭Heroditas

Wow are they actually properly hot? I thought it was just a bag of the cheese ones mixed with the chili heatwave ones.
I east far too many spicy foods. Must try these!

the biggest disappointment in a long time, got a bag and finished the lot waiting for a spicy one... i actually want to write to them and complain...

this article got me all worked up

Centra let me down, only had the normal flavour. Settle on heatwave for €2 a bag. Will have to wait for another day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,821 ✭✭✭Xcellor

These are nice. Yeah they are hot but if you like hot then get them...

Personally id buy a bag of just the hot ones...

I lived in Mexico for a while though so my tongue doesnt feel chilli like normal human being...

It's on the front page of tomorrow's Sun. "I nearly died"

Looks like I had a close call, I polished off a packet of them earlier.

deadly cant wait to try these!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭pawrick

I thought they were ok but I like the cheese ones anyhow and found the hot ones a nice contrast for a change once my palate got used to how hot they were. Definitely not for everyone though. Same price in supervalue btw

Anyone remember the Phileas Fogg tortillas in the black bag (before they dumbed down the recipe) - they were seriously hot - are these comparable?

Not really. The Phileas Fogg ones had actual flavour.

I like hot, but not hot for the sake of it.. No flavour at all from these.

As someone else said, try them once. But wouldn't bother again.

This is pure chemical additive heat like those horrible X-TREME! Pringles a while back or whatever they were called, not lovely natural chili heat. Pack of Doritos Heatwaves much nicer.

Honestly, they're not really all that hot. They'd be a medium hot if you were compare to an Indian takeaway meal.

Herself nearly started crying after hitting one of the chilli ones. I enjoyed the burn and then the kinda sweetness from the nacho chips. Will def be buying them again......and something milder for herself ;)

Anyone know if Dunnes have them for €1.50 too?

May head over to Tesco shortly to get some!

    Dunnes maynooth did.

Dunnes Carlow also had these for €1.50 and only a few left so they seem popular.

Tried them and I have to say I actually like them, the non spicy ones are just tangy cheese flavour and after a few of them the spicy ones tend to just taste like spicy tangy cheese.

For €1.50 ya can't complain too much but to me they taste no more spicy than your average Indian takeaway.

None of these in Tesco Jervis, or Tesco Parnell. :(

These are fairly meh alright. Wouldn't buy them again.

They're nice but definitely not hot, the spice on them more takes your breath away than burns you like habanero, and I'm not acting the hard man but I think Irish people's pain threshold has dropped significantly.
I was in Captain America's two weeks ago and got some atomic burger that the waitress had to warn me about when I ordered it and please, I've had a hotter pizza from Aldi.

I'm afraid its mostly in your head. It is chili extract that they use, you just aren't tasting any chili flesh itself. What exactly did people expect?

Maybe it's Lidl I meant, anyway it's the one with the mince meat and jalapeños. It made my teeth burn!

If you think jalapnos are hot, you don't get spice. I believe Scotts Bonnet are 40 times hotter. :pac:

No it's not the jalapeños I find hot, I can normally eat them freshly sliced and I've tried scotch bonnet, as I said I normally don't have a problem with hot stuff but whatever is on the inferno pizza besides the jalapeños is seriously hot, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes hot stuff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭firestarter51

I make you right there, something in the inferno is surprisingly hot and it's not the jalapeÃ႒±o peppers I can eat then in a salad no problem but the pizza seems to have a pleasant kick.
Finished my Doritos last night, never buying them again, it's not the spice level I don't like its the amount of cheesy crap ones in the pack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,612 ✭✭✭Nollog

The heat from the oven probably releases the spicy juices and covers the entire pizza with spices.
They make my nose run a slice in.

I add chilli or some form of spice to pretty much everything, but I wouldn't be saying I'm into ghost peppers or anything like that.
The girlfriend and I made this http://norecipes.com/recipe/mongolian-beef/ last month. It was the right amount of uncomfortable spicy for me.

Anyway, I'm off to Tesco :pac:
    All gone. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,063 ✭✭✭Greenmachine

Just googled it, sounds like one to try, as far as pre-made goes. Normally make all my own pizzas.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,638 ✭✭✭moodrater

+1 the pack we got was 99% farty cheese flavour back to the chilli heatwave ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,080 ✭✭✭EoghanIRL

Don't even bother guys. Gave in and finally got a pack. I don't know who would consider these spicy . The flavour mix tastes pretty poor also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,063 ✭✭✭Greenmachine

Finally picked up a bag of these. I felt some spiciness building up but nothing serious. Must have been from spicy chips rubbing off others. I was 1/4 of the way through the bag before I got a spicy one and it got me a little off guard and I was actually impressed by it's spiciness. At least half the chips were broken and I was into the bits before I got anymore spicy one. After the initial surprise of the first one, these were not especially spicy. Feel bad because I paid full whack for these in the end just to try them.
