As the title suggests l am looking for somewhere sunny to go as my hubbie got a week off from work (unexpetantly!) next week. Ideally would live to fly from Cork but Dublin or Shannon would be ok also if the price was ok. The budget is relatively tight at a max 550 per person- we really need some sunshine but don't want to slum it too much either- I'm not sure about some of the cancellation holidays posted on some websites- are they trustworthy does anybody know? We could leave this Saturday at the earliest- any advice greatly appreciated!

as I sit here in Munich, sweating at my desk, with the prospect of 35degrees tomorrow and in the 30s then for the week after, I'd just remind you that its not just Africa or touristy southern spain that has temperatures higher than (very wet and temperate) Ireland.

Should you not manage to bag a cheap package to a resort with 1000s of brits to enhance your holiday stay, then have a look to the rest of Europe which will be sweltering next week. Most cities would have public outdoor pools as good as or better than what you have at a resort so you could spend your day topping up the freckles (my wife at this stage is almost a giant freckle as they've all joined up more or less from all the sun and swiming outdoors!)

I could list a heap of ideas, but getting off the island cheaply is your first task. Goto Skyscanner and have a hoke about and see where you end up.

Thank you- apologies for the late reply as we're just back from the sunny Lisbon Coast which was absolutely devine I must say. Not exactly a budget holiday but worth every penny- I strongly recommend it! Back to the rain and wind now though- what a washout of a summer!

The weather this summer has been a tour operators dream, not many bargins on the go I would say.

Zero bargains when I went to look for one on the 3rd week in July- travel agent just laughed when I asked for a cancellation holiday or a discounted last minute deal- I was open to going anywhere!!

which is why I mentioned looking to the rest of the continent rather than focusing just on the south.

Aside from a small blip last week, which still was dry days and a few showers at night (which is incidentally a nice thing about the south german weather, more rain in Munich than Ireland statistically, but it comes heavy over a few evenings so you wouldnt think it! ) with a spell of 30ish there for a few weeks and now 2 weeks promised of 30odd degrees again.
Grand, spain has more predicable good spells, but when booking last minute you can check the forecast and follow the sun !

The wife is planning one last burst of visits to the outdoor pool after work with the kids before we have 2 weeks in Ireland for the "summer" holiday.

Good help u on your 'summer' holidays here- it's truly awful weather wise at the moment. Hopefully it will improve for your visit.

I agree Germany is a nice choice. I've been before and quite like it. Flights were still pricy and to add accommodation then would add up to as much as we ended up paying on a package deal. This summer I was craving sunshine and heat & I wanted ALL 7days sunshine filled and warm! We went to Lisbon in Portugal which was beautiful- the Atlantic breeze is do welcome there and the fact that it's the same timeline as Ireland is good aswel.
