Hi, I would like to know which of the following is best for stations and convenience of watching, and recording. I would appreciate some input. Free to air, Freesat or Freeview?

Hi, I have a FTA set up at the moment. Got rid of Eircom tv. Want to be able to record stations. Also need Saorview box for one tv.

Should I stick with the FTA satellite set up and buy a box which records for that?

Should I get a Freesat box?

Or should I (if I can get the signal) put up an aerial for the English terrestrial Freeview and get a recorder box?

    Opinions welcome. Thanks.

If you already have FTA satellite I would see no benefit in moving to Freeview, even if you can get the signal (which you will only be able to do along the East Coast and border counties), unless there is some station on Freeview only that you really, really want (BT Sport Showcase????)

If you are comfortable with FTA satellite get a recording box for that.

Freesat is still FTA satellite, but uses a proprietary EPG. You may like that if you've less technically minded people in the house, but be warned that the ease of use comes with the price of less channels.

Thanks for that reply. Would you be able to recommend a good FTA box, with recording facility please.

The Freesat boxes shown with "gb" in this link are the current recording boxes on the market

Although you can still get older models, like the Humax Foxsat which I have been using for about 5 yrs with not a single glitch.

Thanks, is that Freesat and not FTA? Is it possible to get a combi box for both FTA and Irish digital terrestrial Saorview and record both?

Not true. All Freesat boxes have a non-Freesat mode where you can manually tune in the channels not on the Freesat EPG.
