There's no hope for the North, but they’ve got the environment hostage

They say the hatred is as bad on one side as the other up there; but I’m not convinced. To me it seems as though it’s the only thing the Loyalists live for. The authorities are clearly trying to pass it off as if it didn’t get out of hand, but it clearly did. An MP hit in the head with a brick, and a car driven into a crowd of people!

It must be the only first world country that something like this would occur. Anywhere else in the world where events like this would happen, you’d presume that the population would be uneducated, or believe in medieval superstitions.

Can you imagine the amount of pollution from these bonfires? Apart from car tires, God only knows what they’d be throwing into it in the months prior to burning it; plastics, batteries, etc. It’s saddening when I think of all the things I do to help the environment, which ultimately are pointless in comparison to how much damage they can do.

In a way, I’d love to see a headline like “Bonfire Watchers Admitted to Hospital due to High Levels of lead in Lungs”, or if the bonfires fell on top of them. That would expose them for being as thick as they are.

And who is it exactly who funds the building of these bonfires? With how thick they seem to be up there, I wouldn’t be surprised if it came directly from the taxpayer! Haven’t Britain signed up for the Kyoto agreements? Does this mean they’ll have to pay fines?

I know for fact that if I was born a loyalist in the north (in a working class area), that after the age of least 18, I’d realise that that’s silly behaviour, and would no longer take part in it. But these guys are grown adults. It just goes to show how stupid and sheep-like most people are.

I've never seen a bonfire here...apart from every single time some local GAA club wins some competition.

Maybe thick Loyalists took over Gaelic games? After all, as you say, they are the only people in the world that build bonfires.

Bonfire nights every year in June around here. It's far from just a loyalist thing. But don't let that stop an attempt at a sectarian dig.

I can see two bonfires from my house right now, lovely clear evening. Granted one of them is in Islay, but there must be a tyre or two in it for the blackness of it.

    It's hilarious.

I was wrong about the GAA thing though, it's not just them, some local Irish dancing crowd won medals in competition recently, and the bonfires were lit.

Rotten loyalists, taking over our national games, now our dancing.

Some bloke drove a car into a crowd of people in Austria a few weeks ago!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yesterday was Wednesday. There shouldn't be any bonfires that day

What county is it you're from?

If only they'd amuse themselves with a Commercial activity like fuel laundering at least then there'd be a few jobs for all the damage caused. Obviously non-taxpaying ones but sure isn't that how little Greece or NI works? :D
