Why not put up an honest description on DoneDeal/Adverts and sell it that way?

A garage is going to give you very little compared to private sale.

    What car out of interest?

Why don't you just approach a few dealers and ask them to sell it on their forecourt on your behalf. You can negotiate a commission with them if they sell it. Now if it's an oldish car most of the big main dealers may not be interested and you may have to try some of the non franchised smaller dealers.

Haven you tried selling it yourself?

The reason I haven't put it up for sale privately is that it has a couple of issues that need to be fixed before it will pass the NCT and I assume any private buyer would baulk. I feel I have a better chance with a garage as they could buy it off me cheap, fix it up and then sell it at a decent profit

    It's an 04 polo

To be honest non of the big garages will be interested in an 11 year old Polo with no NCT and in need of work.

Imo I'd get a quote for the repair work and just reduce the cost off the asking price and see if someone inquires about it. You may get interest from a small time mechanic who can spend his spare time fixing it and selling it on. I'd say even small time dealers will want to buy it from you for next to nothing in it's current condition. Those cash for car types will definitely give you very little for it.

There is a place on the Dock road that "buys cars for cash" but as said above you're probably better off fixing what's needed and then sell it...I can't imagine they'd give you anything even close to what price you have in your head.

If you sell it as is, especially to someone who buys cars for cash, you'll get feck all. What's wrong with it?

You'll always find a small time mechanic looking for something handy to fix up and sell in his spare time. :)

Your best bet is an honest description on DoneDeal.

Actually would you mind sending me a PM with details? Possibly interested myself.

Hi op if you want a sale and to help that along even if you don't have the money or time to get repairs done put the car through the NCT and in your advert place a photo of the fail sheet.

Be honest and take decent pics inside and out and write in all the extras and good points to the car.

Put in that you are selling and price it appropriate to the condition and costs to repair.

Is there big mileage on it and what are the major faults.

    Hi guys,

Looks bad but I thought as much.

Some people asked for info so:

    04 polo
    185,000 km

2 issues: needs new ABS brake pump
Some issue with the fuel/temp sensor. It basically means that if you drive the car for longer than 15 mins and then turn it off, it will take 15 mins or so to cool down and restart properly.

Apart from this it's fine and reliable

firstly put the mileage in miles not kms as it looks less and clocks in miles anyway

04 could be either mph or kmph
