I have a couple of one ball wonders at home and I'm thinking of banding them. Anybody try the California bander for Connaght-agri?

Would this be a bad time of year with flies etc? They'd have an open wound.

If they are half castrated bulls I don't think they'd be suitable for banding.

If I have to split a bull from the bunch I normally band him cos they'd kill him if mixed again. I normally put a fly tag and pour on on him and I has no bother. Don't forget tetanus shot. Op my vet has a callicrate bander so don't know bout one you mentioned.you can buy online.

One ball because they were only born with one descended or because they weren't castrated well the first time? Asking because if they have a testicle that never dropped it would still be making testosterone so they may still display bullish behaviour and be dangerous. Most retained testicles are infertile as at the wrong temperature in the abdomen. Also more likely to turn into a tumour but they generally finished before that is an issue for cattle :)

No. operator error I'm afraid. I'm fairly sure that their infertile but still have the testosterone there

If you already banded them and the lower half of the sack is missing then you would be unlikely to get a new band high enough to redo them. If they were burdizzo'd you could try again or band them depending how big they are. If there is not much of the scrotum left you would be looking at having a vet cut them out to get the ball that is left as it will be high up against the wall of the abdomen now.

Burrdizzoed last time. Plenty for a band to hold onto I would think

Oh, in that case I would be tempted to Burdizzo them again if you have a good one. There was a thread on here a few months ago from somebody that found their Burdizzo wasn't closing as tight as they thought and was leaving a few one-ball wonders as you said around the place, more common than you think, most people use the same Burdizzo for 20+ years. The one at home on our farm is alot older than I am! That said it may not be the equipment, not criticizing your technique, it happens alot, it is easy for the cord to slip out of the jaws of the Burdizzo if you are in a rush. If they are very big now might be better to have a vet cut them. They tend not to be as sore after cutting compared to burdizzo.
