What's the legal situation re volunteers who work with kids and garda vetting. Is it compulsory? It's a summer camp.

Everyone who works with kids needs to be vetted is my understanding.

That's what I thought. I asked the organisation running it and none of their volunteers are vetted. They are also all from another country brought in especially for this camp so no one can personally verify them. Is this a breech of any laws?

I don't believe the law requiring it outside of certain specific jobs has been introduced yet.

From a child protection perspective I wouldn't be comfortable with it. I'm not sure of the laws - I know from my career area we need to be vetted for each setting we go into. So it seems odd to me that no vetting would be in place for a camp

It's up to the company to request it.

They need to be registered with the Vetting Unit.
