Best Budget Goalkeepers/Defenders

Since most people will go with cheap goal keepers and cheap defenders I would like to know the best options out there, Goal keepers get more points per save this year and Defenders for clearances as opposed to pass completion so going the cheap route may be the way to go anyway.

    Heres my back 6

    Myhill
    Guzan

    bassong
    huth
    coates
    francis
    Prodl

Is there a better combination of cheap goal keepers and defenders in the 4.5m bracket, I dont think 4.0m represents any value at all? I realise foster is probably going to replace Myhill eventually but at least he will start the season

FFS wrote decents articles on GKs, budget defenders & i'll throw in a bonus budget midfielders as well! Hard to say much more than they do there.

It should be noted that keepers do not get more points per save, it's still 1 point per every 3 saves.

The difference is the BPS, where they will require less saves to get a point. Whether this translates into actual points is a different issue.

The FFS articles are very informative, however it seems to me that they place a lot of emphasis on the bonus point scoring system.

I think you are very close to the ideal selection there for someone that is aiming to go as cheap as possible. If hennesey moves to wba I'd probably just get him instead of guzan as you never know when pulis ball will strike and chances are it will strike the times you play guzan.

Theres a method in the madness, have 6x4.5 goalkeeper/defs allows me to have

    Hazard
    Sliva
    Depay
    A.Sanchez
    Aguero

I will have to rotate a pretty ****ty 4.5m 5th choice midfielder and 2x5.0m strikers I have Walcott and Rooney in place of in the mean time as Aguero and Sanchez wont be fit

It's pretty much the strategy I always go for. Get in as many big hitting captaincy options as possible at the start. Worry about upgrading the defenders when trends develop around 8 to 10 weeks in.

Going with the same strategy to start myself, Paddy, just with Myhill and Hennessy to have a WBA keeper and save £0.5m. There's not a hope in hell I'm rotating GK's given the hardship that comes with it. I'll wildcard to get Aguero in pre-Watford (H) for GW4 so I'm going with as cheap as possible defence at the start and like Busts, hope to identify some trends. Personally, I've found the best £4.5m options for the first 3-4 weeks come from: Sunderland, Norwich, Watford and Leicester.

Admittedly, it's worrying going with so many cheap defenders as it's not something I've done before, but it's worth a shot IMO. This strategy allows me to max out up front with say - Rooney, Costa and Kane. Or load up in midfield with Hazard, Silva, Mata/Walcott etc.
