Does anyone know if it is legal to posses Nitrous Oxide - those little whipped cream canisters - it are there laws saying you must be in catering or something?

A friend wants me to bring some to them in my checked in luggage as they are ridiculously expensive where he lives. I am so worried about it and think that I may be arrested for possession with intent to use it recreationally which is illegal (a misdemeanor) in California. I can't find much information on it anywhere - please help.

    My friend lives in Japan.

This for is predominantly used by Irish people

Not many people here will know the intricacies of Japanese or Californian law on such matters.

The airline will of course be curious about someone with large numbers of compressed gas canisters on a plane and may decline to carry them.

The compressed gas isn't a worry - that's how they get to here from the UK (airmail) Think it's an urban legend about exploding compressed canisters (surely then you wouldn't be able to bring deodorant cans in your luggage?)

Do you know if there are any laws around its use in Ireland?

They're not illegal to possess in Ireland.

I would not recommend bringing anything even slightly dubious into the USA though (!).

My brother called the airline and they said they won't allow it on the plane. Thanks for all your help guys.
