Hi. The pressure in my boiler went over the weekend so I called a plumber in. He said the boiler would need to be replaced and informed me of a deal available until this weekend, new boiler and installation for €1100. I don't know what type of boiler it is but I'm sure I can find that out easy enough. How does that price sound to ye? Could it be done any cheaper? He is a registered RGI installer. Thanks

    how old is the system?
    is it open or closed?
    how good is the inhibitor?
whats the pipework: GB, copper, plex?

Why is the boiler gone as opposed to a leak under the floor?

How do u know u are not being bounced....

€1100 sounds a good price. Is it cash in hand though? Will you get your RGII cert when the boiler is installed?
Also, what make of boiler is he offering to you? Depending on a number of factors, the price might be due to an energy supplier subsidy.

The house is about 10 years old. I dont know the answers to the other questions! He said there was lime in the system? He flushed it out into the rads as a short term fix, so its back working for now. Hes a registered RGI so I'd assume its all above board...it does seem weird about the offer until the weekend. He said a wholesaler was offering cheaper units but only had a few left.

Dunno what the manufacturer of the unit hes offering is but I can find out.

    Ok here's the truth.
That's absolutely rubbish. He's looking to make quick easy money and stick up a boiler in a few hours. Just because he's RGI doesn't mean he's a good tradesman.
The standard for any decent boiler install is between 1800-2200. Anybody charging less ( especially 1100 ) is ripping you off completely.
I could barely supply materials for that price.
Ask that cowboy if he'll be POWERFLUSHING the system beforehand. It's an absolute must. By that I mean a process that takes 5-6 hours cleaning the system out with a machine and chemicals, so your shiny new boiler doesn't get clogged up with dirt.
Ask him what inhibitor he'll be using
Ask him what magnetic filter he'll be fitting
And most importantly, get a second opinion about changing the boiler first.

I'd love to know what these "cheaper units" are too.
High efficiency boilers that are sitting out the back that he wants to get rid of instead of installing a condensing one?

A condensing boiler is a high efficiency boiler. A job for 1100 means corners are being cut left right and centre. No powerflush, magnet and god knows what else is being skipped

    Gwan find out what boiler.

Granted I fit higher end boilers but I can't even buy the boiler/materials for that price

Yikes, glad I posted this here! I'll get a second opinion first and see what he says. I will call this guy back and inquire about the powerflush and that and Ill post whatever he says here! Thanks lads

How much does the boiler retail at

I think he pays 550 to 600 for the boiler a 24kw combi.
Sure how could you compete with that.. and I hate going into houses that he was already in pricing and give a quote for double that and people straight away think your the bollxx charging that sort of money. Ya can't win sometimes.

The aristons are closer to 900 where I am. Is he fitting an older HE model? 1,000 for installing a boiler is ridiculous. But there's Cowboys in every profession. We'll just have to accept it

I don't know what model exactly he is putting in. I'm 99.9% sure he is paying cash for then in a certain shop in dublin.
