Hi I'm looking for a college laptop that would also be able to be used for streaming TV shows and sports, play classic games like half life, age of empires, jedi knight and championship manager 2000/01. Budget is 500-1000. My phone tablet and smart TV are Samsung so would possibly like to stay Samsung but not as important

Literally any laptop with an Intel Core i3 can do all those things.

    Don't buy Samsung laptops.

    Stick to Dell/Lenovo/Asus/Acer.

What other specs should I be looking for

What other specs should I be looking for
SSHD 1TB, or SSD + HDD configuration (putting Windows on a Flash SSD speeds it up immensely).

    4Gb RAM minimum.

Avoid 1366x768 screens, they are almost all crap.

    1600x900 or 1920x1080 for resolution.

Is battery life at all important? That would, once you have an Intel I3 processor, be my next almost necessary item. Followed by maybe 8gb of ram.

What exactly are you studying or will you just 've using the laptop for note taking, writing assignments, etc?

It's health and safety but I'm not sure yet how much I'll be using it. Minimum will be assignments, altho I've heard a lot of college courses these days a lot of the notes and stuff are available online

Yes, a lot of colleges do have notes online so but I would get clarification on what programmes you'll run on the computer and how much of the material can be gotten online.

Most people, at college, prefer smaller, lighter ones. The benefits being they're obviously easier to carry around. The other upside is also that they (at times) have a good deal of battery life more than a 15" model and above would have.
Personally, I got a recent laptop that's decent enough; gives me about 6 hours on battery with wi-fi enabled. My plan is to cary around a spare battery and that's a 15" laptop.

I'd find out how long he lectures would be and if they'll be all day, you might want to look into a portable laptop rather than the 15" and above models.

However, I would urge you to try out a computer or laptop that has a resolution of 1980x1080p and then compare it with a resolution of 1366x68; the higher resolution lets you work so much better and has so much more space.

Bottom line: get a laptop with resolution of 1980x1080p, 8GB of RAM and a i3/i5/i7 processor that starts with "5". This is critical; they're the latest generation of CPUs and the take much less power, the downside being that the general consumer ones are not extremely powerful but college student, streaming, etc, will be more than fine.
