I've been offered a fairly vintage looking bike for free, its in fairly decent condition needing a light refurb.

Its a Locomotier Tour De France as far as I can make out, they are the only names on the frame.

Is it worth doing anything with or has anyone heard of them before?

The owner reckons its from the 60's.

I have a photo on my phone, not sure how to post it.

    Locomotief maybe?

They seem to be decent framesets alright, Internet mentions Reynolds 531 tubing versions too.

Locomotief Tour de France ca 1962-1965

Dutch racing history. May I apply to an original racing bike from early 60's, built by Locomotive in Amsterdam.
Original specification with Campagnolo Gran Sport derailleurs and laagflensnaven, Titan / Maes stem and bend, Brooks B17 narrow, welded Weinmann rims, Robergel spokes, and Conti 30mm tires, Stronglight Competition cranks (170mm) and hollow shaft and Weinmann 500 brakes which also do! The Televizier Squad Pellenaars drove aluminum Mafac Record cranks and brakes, but this is the time for a decent specification.
Locomotive would eventually be taken over in '65 by Gazelle, which utilize the knowledge in house got to the Champion Mondials, to develop

    That's the one, my bad!

Sadly its more of a leisure bike with mudguards, built in rear luggage rack with a single chainwheel on the front and flat bars.

    Like http://www.rijwiel.net/fietsen/loc/027195d.jpg ?

Maybe its a later Gazelle utility model, or a modified one then.

That looks very almost identical, has the lamp and sprung saddle but the one I'm looking at only has a guard around the outer edge of the chain, its not encased like the one in the photo, might be a cover missing?

The mudguards are the same colour as the frame and look to be more decorative and the stays for the front mudguard are horizontal, not angled like the one in the photo?

I might pick it up tomorrow altogether and take some proper photos and have a good look at it.
