Presurised cold water

    Hi,

As part of a new build the pressure for our domestic cold and hot water will be provided by a submersible pump in the cold water tank. Currently this cold water tank will be located in our plant room which is located at the heart of the house. There are obviously noise implications associated with any pump so I was wondering if it's a better to locate this tank and pump in the garage.

    Thanks,

    J.

Those type are quite quiet. But I would fit a decent size expansion vessel so it's not on at the slightest tap opening.

It'll extend the pump life massively

But also if it's convenient to shift it then why not

it'd be much quieter and if the mains water is off for a few days it is much easier to fill it from a mobile tank and carry on as normal

you'll need to run heating cable along with the pipe and insulate the tank a bit - if it gets cold for a few weeks like it did a few years ago it can all go very wrong very quickly

you can do water filtration out there too - can be noisy at night

while they are running cables, run a cable out to the garage for a generator - no power - no water
