Carl Froch retires

Froch has announced his retirement and has joined Sky as a pundit. Couldn't see him getting back in the ring, especially after the payday with Chavez lied in tatters after Fonfara beat him.

Fair play to Froch though, made his money and got out at the top or as close to it. Set up for life now with his wife and kids. Can't fault him for that.

I was never a big fan of him at all, but he has an appealing style to the viewer and provided some good moments in the last few years.

I'll look forward to seeing him on Sky using every possible moment to drop how he knocked out a guy in Wembley in front of 80000 people :p

Ah but no all the best to him. Paves the way for DeGale and Brook to become the biggest British draws.

Was never a huge fan of him either but he always gave his all and had a granite chin. Pretty annoying that he put that picture up saying he's too big and too strong for GGG and then he retires but it's no surprise really. On a a world level he had pretty limited boxing skills, I thought his most impressive performance came against Jean Pascal.

Never a big fan of his very awkward and sloppy style, but he was hell for all opponents. Very difficult man to beat during his era. Yes, Ward beat him, but it was still a tough and hard fought win. Carl made Ward work very hard for the win.

I agree he was hell for most opponents but thought Ward outclassed him and was fighting with one hand for most of it. I don't think it was tough or hard fought and Froch was a little disappointing, still it's no shame being outclassed by Ward as most would be. I'd have to watch the fight back to fully confirm what I remember but looking at the reports from the night the general consensus was he was beaten soundly. Looking at two of the cards you'd think it was close but I remember they were outrageous.

People always say that Ward gets home town decisions and I have to laugh because he almost got robbed there. 115-113 is a disgraceful score and two judges scored it that. I gave Froch the 9th round and the 11th and that was it. 118-110. Case could have been made maybe for the 1st round but not really. I recall many people having it as a 12-0 shutout to Ward and several more 11-1. It wasn't a close fight at all and Ward had a broken hand too half way through.

Ward won. It was a deserved Ward win. He had to work hard all the time for it. That is my point. It was a fairly tough fight for him. Froch didn't let himself down. Whether it's 12-0 in rds or 7-5 in rds the fight was hard fought.

Voted for the Bute fight as it was such a comprehensive beatdown. Though I did think that maybe Bute could have done a bit more about those charging uppercuts from halfway across the ring when he was against the ropes. I guess he was just completely overpowered.

Same here, wasnt bute the betting favourite coming into this one and got battered. Froch was class and bute has really not been the same since.

For me fight II vs. Kessler was Carl's most complete fight. The whole night he was so focused and committed against a very strong and ring savvy Kessler. He finished so strong as well. He really left no stone unturned in that fight. I have a feeling that fight meant more to him than any other.

It has to be Taylor for me. Considering he was knocked down and was losing the fight, comes back in the dying seconds of the 12th and knocks Taylor out, it was incredible.

Little known fact about Froch - he knocked out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley stadium.

    True Story.

Like most I was not a huge Froch fan but can deny he had a super carrer .

I did think he would fight again for one last pay day . After all who ever he faught it would of been most likely PPV . But I don't think they could find anyone credible they he would of fancied beating. And he didn't want to risk as he calls it his legacy by going out with a defeat.

For me his best performance was the 2nd Groves fight . Mainly because I taught he was terrible in first fight and lucky to win it imo . Then 6 months later he looked a different fighter . He had a lot of pressure on him that night and to be fair he booked well before he delivered that peach of a shot in the 8th

Apart from the KO the 2nd Groves fight was a snoozer. Froch was never tested at all. Boxed very cautiously.
