Some questions about handing out CVs? (retail)

I handed out CVs to a few shops today (although most places I went wouldn't take them until September). I've been applying to online jobs for a while, but I've never physically handed in a CV somewhere so it was a bit unnerving.

Anyway, this might sound silly but I was just wondering:

Would the person you handed the CV to not pass it on to their manager if they didn't like you? I think I was polite and friendly but I'm worried I wasn't enthusiastic enough because I was a bit nervous.

If you don't have shop experience, would most places automatically rule out? In one place, I was asked if I had worked in a shop before. I said no, because I've never had a shop job before- but now I'm thinking I should have said yes, because I did actually work in a few shops during transition year (which I have down on my CV).

Also a question about online applications.. if you don't hear back about an online application within a week, should you just take that as a rejection?

Sorry if these questions are stupid. I hope someone can help me.

Go in suited and booted, ask to speak to the duty manager. If they're not available don't push it. Nice firm handshake and eye contact. Introduce yourself and hand them the CV with a cover letter tailored to that particular business. Explain, briefly, why you want to work in that particular store.
