High pitch noise when aux cable is connected

Having a very annoying problem with my mondeo's sound system. Whenever I plug the aux cable into a phone or iPod to play music I get this electronic whine sound. The pitch of it depends on the rpm of the engine, the higher the rpm the louder the whine is. The odd time it might not happen but mostly it does.

Another issue as well is that I always have to leave the glove box opened whenever I'm using the aux as the drivers side speakers lose sound and only passenger side work, as soon as I open the glove box it returns to normal.

Any thoughts on what the cause could be ?

    Thanks Colm

The one you linked is discontinued but I'm sure I'll find another one. Was even thinking of running a cable from the back of the radio out through the glove box as I've read of people having problems with the aux connections on the mondeo but I just want to make sure it won't do the same thing if I do that.

To be honest as well, when I gotta the car I couldn't believe that they installed aux connections on cars 11- 12 years ago.

I assume you're also charging the device at the same time?

It does sound like there is a poor quality dcdc converter involved. .

You've got alternator whine - probably caused by a ground loop. I have a similar problem with AC hum getting through on a car stereo I use in the house.

Does it happen when the iPod/phone is disconnected from the charger socket?

You could try one of the items below depending on what type of connection your using. Both are similar to the Griffin cable that colm_mcm linked to.

I'll have to go back and check that one, I never use it anymore when I'm just driving by myself, freaks me out too much, it's usually friends that would plug their music into it and tbh I wouldn't really be noticing if they were charging their phone or not.
