I was doing some calcs last week on turnips I've sowed, they suppose to give DM return of 6/7ton per hectare and same thing I found said stubble turnips returns 3.5 / 4 ton DM per hectare with grazing 12/14 weeks after sowing.

Taking 3.5 ton DM and ewes eat about 1kg DM a day and ewes on them for 100 days. Say less than average crop and get 3 ton DM I think you would need about 10 hectares, about 25 acres for 300 ewes for 100 days at lower end DM return....

I'd say Hugh might have this info at his finger tips though :)

we grow them and the major thing we found is you never have enough of them,we feed the ewes on them up to 3 weeks prior to lambing and give no meal and saves a huge amount of time when busy in work, and run the ewe lambs after the ewes to clean up and works great.

Sheep breeder do you mind giving a detailed breakdown into how you grow them. Interested in doing something similar for this winter
