Child Travel by Air

Not sure if anybody would know of the following.

Can a grandparent fly with a 5 year old grandchild without problems,
or will security not allow it.
or would it have to be agreed with the airline before hand.

or is there an allowance that will let a parent fly just say from
Dublin to London Gatwick or Heathrow, this parent would not exit the airside facilities, and a child of age 5 would be allowed through security so that both child and parent could then access a flight home to Dublin?

Just been placed with a scenario and wondering which would be the easiest.
    cheers for any help.

Put the grandparent and child on the one booking and you shouldn't have issues

If the child is not with its guardian/ parents then you might need a letter and contact details or the police may suspect a child kidnap.
Even if a child is travelling with one parent you can get pulled up on the matter.
