Settle an argument for me. Is it okay for a vow renewal to be on a totally different date from the original wedding?

Eh yeah. Why wouldn't it be? I guess some people are sentimental about dates and stuff but other than that do it whenever you like. I don't really get the point of renewing vows at all if you're happily married. I might feel differently at 25 or 50 years married though.

Yeah it can be on a different day. My BIL and his wife were married 10 years just before xmas last year, they renewed their vows at their daughter's christening which wasn't on their anniversary.

I totally agree. You do not have to use the same date to renew your vows as the date of your wedding.
Renewing wedding vows is a personal choice between the couple. Where, when and how is totally up to the couple and their wishes.
A Marriage ceremony is a legal contract, a wedding ceremony is a personal ceremony of commitment between a couple without the legal fringes attached.

Whatever ye want.. But I cant think of why it would have to be on the same day.. I suppose it would save remembering two date :)
