Our final open promotion of the season will take place on Sunday July 26th this year in Donore village and this year is the 19th edition, and the main event once again sponsored by Coca Cola International Services.Racing for all on the day on the usual love/hate 6.4 km circuit.Sign on and parking at Scoil Naomh Mhuire in the village from 10.30am.Schedule is as follows.

Youths U12 and U14 at 11.45am.These will be 1 and 2 lap races.
    Senior A4 12.15pm 8 x laps
    Womens Race 12.17 7 x laps
    U16 Race 12.19 5 x laps
[Please note that the Womens race will double as the Leinster Womens R/R Champs as Ras na Mban clashes with the date of the Leinster champs in September.]
    Senior A1/A2/A3/Junior Handicap race 2.00pm 13 x laps
Presentation and a cuppa in the school immediately afterwards.
Hopefully will get the support of the riders.

(Apologies for the old thread resurrection)

What way do Cycling Ireland points work for this race for A3 riders?
Do the first 8 A3 riders get points?
Or is it just the first 8 overall that get points?

in a handicap race it's first 8 over the line regardless of category.

Going to give this a go. What way does the A4 race usually end up - sprint? Any hill to break it up?

unlikely to be a bunch finish i would say, tough little course that wears you down over the course of the race.

Have you a profile of the course?
From the area but only home now and again

Just back from my first Mark Mullen outing of this year, had forgotten just how savage this course is, 13 laps is going to be a killer!

Tractors were out last night. Maybe they could rustle up a few combine harvesters for Sunday. Are you racing L_D?:P

Ha ha! The source of my two year adversion to cornering revealed!

I'm at a wedding on Saturday without her good self so I'm 100% not going to be in any condition that would render me able to complete let alone compete in the race.

Been out all day dotting the i's and crossing the t's.Just a couple of points.
Parking is at the rear of the school [sign on venue]
There will be some parking at the church, but beware there is a new overhead barrier at entry.Hate to see mangled carbon on my patch.
Please respect the residents of the village and do not park on the very well kept green area at the estate after the finish area. And definitely bring your litter home.We have the support of the locals and very much want to keep it that way.

Im was very pleased to stay the distance when a lot didn't ,just missed out on an unplaced pot but I still put that down as a good ride happy out

some weather out there today, shivered all the way back home. well run race.

I wussed out and had an espresso and blueberry muffin instead. The espresso was slightly cooler than I normally like, so I too suffered a lot today.

I need a big dose of htfu.

A4 pace was too much for me, dropped half way round on 7th lap. (given the league is 6 laps, I have a mental block doing any more than that!)
Some really strong lads in A4, big thoroughbreds of lads, broke-away as I was dropped, well done to our own thoroughbred Brenmac for going with them and claiming his first Open-Race points, well deserved, and relief to have a Drogheda man in the pot, after 10 of us starting!!
No doubt it will be head-line news on droghedawheelers.com, given who the administrator is!

Thanks to Wav1 and all the gang for their efforts to ensure we had our fun today.

Thanks Paddy. Results now updated on the site. The headline was going to be "superb ride by bren" but I thought it best not to :)

Big thanks to Wav1 and Co. Made the tricky conditions as safe as possible.

Thanks again to Wav1 and crew for another great event in challenging circumstances.
It amazes me that there aren't more of these kinds of 'kermesse-style' races in Ireland. Very much the norm in many parts of northern Europe and both the roads -and Irish weather- are ideal for staging these multi-lap-thru-village type races where a wearing down process produces great racing and good spectator experience.
On a recent holiday I was tempted to enter a similar race; 5.6km lap over the 'cote-du-marie-blonde' She sounded nice but there were 18 LAPS in total! And it was for Cat3 and Jnr only
    Imagine another 5 today?
Anyway, glad to go the distance and will try again next year

Hard, hard race yesterday. Organisation was good and everyone stayed safe.
Pity there wasn't a cup of tea going for the frozen and wet A4's and Women after their races.

That race is like childbirth - if it wasn't for our remarkable ability to forget pain there's no way you would do it twice.

Thanks a million to Drogheda Wheelers and a particular thanks to the marshals - it wasn't a day to be standing on a corner for 4 hours. Brilliant job as usual - I don't think I saw a car all day.

Nice to get the sign on money back too.
