    I have an interview in further education coming up soon and wondering if anyone has advice on types of questions that may be asked. It's a science/maths position.

    All the usual questions for a second level interview (do a search on the forums as has been asked many times)

    plus
    • Fetac/ QQI - how it works / your teaching modules /assessment / quality assurance / paperwork etc
    • Solas & ETB - aware of the new structure and recent changes
    • Aware of new progression routes into third level with Fetac courses
    • Mix of learners - schools leavers and adults - potential issues / different styles etc

    All of the above. For maths and science, the emphasis should be on differentiation when you have a mix of prior knowledge among adult learners. With assessment, you want to talk about the continuous assessment similar to assessments that are currently in LCA.

    If successful, you would be responsible for writing all assessments and designing an appropriate mark scheme. Take a look at SEC mark scheme to help you if you end up doing this. Mark schemes and clear assessment guidelines are essential when an external examiner is called in to sign off on your results.

    our etb likes questions about the "values of the organization " . if relevant they ll be on the website. This is mainly an equality question. relate your teaching , approaches etc to the values . It can bev relevant to FE . minorities , issues between students , social attitudes etc .

    They are motivated, but often lacking in self confidence, especially in relation to basic literacy skills and their relationship to the education system. They also often feel intimidated by being in a class with a lot of younger people.

    Important to point out that your job would be to reassure them, and to be patient with their insecurities. That you would point out to them that their life experience is valuable to their own learning and to the other students.

    Can I ask Science nut if you have a teaching qualification in Adult and Further education?
